It's interesting... I remember the first times that Dave's creations were talked about on these forums and the vast majority of posts used words like abomination, butcher, fugly, and plenty of vomit smilies! Either the purists have left the room or you must be getting better at this frankenstein business Dave winkwavey

Can I just say, as interesting a project as this is... is this all just because Sags don't have sunroofs? Seems a bit OTT for that reason, surely someone has more money than sense...

I think you will be suprised how much this actually costs.

Surprised as in its cheap, or surprised as in expensive. I would imagine replacing and painting just about every single panel is never going to surprise me as to how cheap it is! This and the fact they must surely being doing R+D as they go along. I would say at a minimum this is a £7k job.

I don't think its my place to comment on the price, I enquired about it when my car got written off and was looking for replacement ideas and was pleasantly suprised. Email plasticman he will be able to give you an idea of cost but a lot will depend on paint and what state/cost the donor car is.

Don't forget this build does not involve butchering a sag. it uses a front and rear sag body panels but the majority of it is Tuscan - crashed tuscans are not expensive.

So I think that is grrrreat value. Busted Tuscan with OK engine could be £7K or less. so you could have a really special car on the road for less than £20K. Sags are £35K.

Nail on head! You wouldn't take a mint Tuscan and do this. If the donor car needs work anyway, then the additional cost of Dave's genious is not that bad. A completely unique car in the TVR spirit. Gets a huge thumbup from me.

OK so this stuff relies on getting a donor car for some of the panels... if it is £7k for that, I would struggle to see this work being shy of £10k then. I know this requires a great deal of skill... I just think £10k is a lot for a sunroof. I can't see a huge amount of difference in the car from a std Sag. I realise there are prob many differences however, it just doesn't look different to me, and I am not a TVR outsider.

Not sure I understand your point.
A standard Sag is £35K or more.
This is sub £20K.
But if it dont float your boat then thats fine.

Yeah but its not a Sag is it? its a Tuscan made to look like a Sag. You cant really compare prices.

It gets a big thumbup from me to, I just don't think it should be compared price wise with a Sag.

I was only comparing the price to that of a Sag as the other chap suggested it was a lot of money for a sunroof. I like it for what it is - a fantastic looking car that I am sure goes and handles very very well.

I am not sure I get this at all. Are you saying someone could just come along with £20k and buy this car, or do they need a Tuscan plus £20k. I thought this was modifications done to a customer car (e.g. Sag that someone wanted to open-top), not a write-off. If it is a Tuscan made to look like a Sag then I it sounds like the same sort of thing as a Toyota MR2 'Ferrari' to me. Still, I'll leave it there, I am not trying to subvert anything.

Say you buy a Tuscan with a blown engine for £7K, or yours blows and is then worth £7K, add £8K for this work, add £9K for a 400+ BHP engine and £1K for a good service then you have a Targa Sagaris for £25K.
