Nissan GTR (2015 specs). Power 545 bhp and 463 lbs/ft torque. Weight of 1723kgs. 0-60 time 2.9 secs (with launch control).

So I don't think the Mustang will be so far away.

Did you mean muscle car or TVR? getmecoatbiggrin

In all seriousness though, would the American market not want the Mustang before an unknown quantity i.e. TVR?

American market? You seriously think that new "TVR", in the unlikely event that it actually produces a car, could sell here?

TVR is essentially unknown here. The last car imported was a 1986 280i. The American consumer is used to a 4 year bumper to bumper warranty with full manufacturer back up. The costs of doing business here are huge and the financial implications of getting it wrong are crippling. PW knew what he was doing when he decided to concentrate on the UK.

If Les Edgar thinks he can beat Aston Martin, never mind the vastly less cash-strapped Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche, he's got another thing coming...

If the TVR is £55-80k, then yes, he will have beaten Aston.

Well, lets just say, if, the new car is produced, the owner clearly has his own view of how the project will take off. He is obviously convinced the new car, if produced, is going to be a "slayer" of Ferrari, Aston, Lambo etc etc and in my limited little world, I believe these do sell in the states reasonably well. The slaying is not just 0-60 times, it is the whole package and that includes foreign markets. How else can he produce enough cars to become a viable business, as surely the home market is not big enough? The world has moved on.

Saying this, I am concerned that I do have little lingering doubts about this project now.

How so? On this forum TVR will of course be king. Lets take a roomful of 100 people of varying backgrounds and have a vote of the established threesome and a new TVR. How many will put their hands up for the new car? My guess = 20. So while the price wins hands down, that's not the end of it by a long way though, is it?

Well, maybe I'm wrong, but it's reassuring to see that others were making the same mistake decades before I was born, such that it has entered the general lexicon. It's not something to get into a massive argument over, unlike the V8 vs I6 thing.

All this talk about taking on Aston, etc is misconceived.

TVR are not aiming, despite that quotation, to out-Aston Aston or out-Porsche Porsche. From everything else I have read, they have identified a niche that isn't very well catered for - crazy fast, usable every day, more of a sense of occasion, fewer gadgets...that kind of thing. Not a 'ring time technology fest like the quasi-competition.

I think they are spot on in identifying that market opportunity. My guess is that the niche is big enough to support the kind of numbers that TVR is after. It will take share from a number of manufacturers but wont really be head-to-head with any of them.

Good Grief, there was I thinking all this banter was amongst a bunch of lads maybe late twenties to late thirties, and it turns out Rover P6B is 58, and blueg33 is nearly 50... eek

ORD, have to ask, I'm guessing your 30 something? (don't get all uptight or Porsche-ist it's just banter wink )

I know DA is in his 90's, and I'm no spring chicken, but it's beginning to sound like this thread is wrinkly dominated biggrin

Apparently, and according to my daughter, there is life after wrinkly status, seemingly when you've moved on from wrinkly, you become a dribbly smile Made I Larf biggrin

So here we are, bunch of old blokes, talking about 450bhp TVR's smile Few more years and it'll be mobility scooters smile

No offence to anyone was intended in this post whistle

Well I'm older than any of the ages quoted (except 90!) and I've recently filled up my garages with a 4th TVR (3rd S6) and still do track days.

My wife recently asked me when I'm going to grow up having just seen off a 911. I hope never! Oh and I will get upset if anyone suggests I'm wrinkly!

So bring it on LE, I'm looking forward to a test drive in the new V8! If drives well and looks different, I may be pursuaded!
