In my humble opinion , it was nothing to do with Business Models, but call it PWs Ego or obsession to have an English powered straight six engine ( true to historical British sportscars) . But for a small company in the late '90s the development costs of their own engine was prohibitive but they did succeed at the expense of the company frown . And it was "Cutting Edge" .
Agreed, I would say that it was sticking with the Speed Six as the only engine option that killed off TVR. Who knows how many customers were lost due to the engine issue horror stories. Had the engine been reliable and a V8 alternative been an option then things could have been very different.

the manufacturing process was still too labour intensive though. The Russian tried to develop a LS3 verison of the tuscan, with th old style chassis, grp body set up. But to make a profit, it would have to sell at a price point that TVR could not expect to achieve.

(Straight six, rescued that prototype, and made it into something special.)

TVR succeeded in the late 80s snd 90s as there was almost no competition.

When I had mine there really weren’t any other choices.

Unfortunately today they are umpteen fast sports cars at various price points, with serious development budgets behind them.

I’m not saying it’s impossible but it’s a whole lot more difficult now

As it is universally accepted that the current TVR public relations department is seriously deficient, thought I'd just post this to show them how its done..................and it will help pass the time while we 'watch this space'.

I see Les has just registered another company, EDG4R&CO LTD.

Preparation for a pre-pack?

Just kidding. I'm sure it's completely unconnected. coffee

What would be the point? All the rights to the brand, the car, and so on are controlled by the secured creditors. They're not going to accept much less than full value for releasing them. The fact that they appear not to be putting pressure on Les (as far as we can tell) is itself good news, of course.

I'm sure that the secured creditors money is perfectly safe.

Well we’re now in May waiting for February’s Big News but TVR have disappeared off the face of the Earth. I hoped Les would have at least proved he’s still progressing something but the last we heard from him was the home video done by that puppy-like Schmee fellah.

February's big news? More like last August!

Hello again,

The next scheduled update will be delivered no later than October, but will be preceded by both approximate queue positioning detail and a questionnaire/survey in the interim period. In respect of the exciting news we are waiting to make known, ‘shortly' means as soon as we are able to share, which may be in 2 weeks but may also not be until the October update. We do hope you wish to remain on the depositor listing but await further instruction should you choose not to.

Kind regards

Yep, it's very hard to understand. What Shmee video are you referring to ? Last thing i've seen was the Top-Cats Events one ?

ps: someone asked a few pages ago what's going on with the facebook deposit holder closed group. Well, it's pretty silent there, hardly any new posts. So this thread is still the most active and comprehensive one. The picture it paints is not pretty, that's for sure. But my impression is, that they have stopped following the posts here and i'd also say they are now regretting to have taken depositors on board that early.

I absolutely still hope for the car to arrive as there are no alternatives and everything is working against them. I was shocked by the ISA thing (intelligent speed assistance). And they will have to account for that for all cars sold after 2022.

What was also in that EU-regulation (which will apply to British cars, too, Brexit or not) and got overlooked, is a mandatory black box recording all braking, acceleration, speeds, etc. Plus the way will be paved for the introduction of some alcohol-locking device.

I've read a consultants paper (from a group that worked on that regulation) that gave some insights. EU is expecting a backlash if they make ISA mandatory from the start, so they will have grace period of maybe 2 years. Expect it to become very rigid once that period has passed ( no more turning off, it will be impossible to go faster ). There's also no reason why they could not limit acceleration as well. Black box data is intended to be used in case of accidents, but paper explicitly states that data could be proactively shared with insurers, police, traffic management etc.

So get you cars before 2022, 1984 is coming.
