I am very sad to say that on the journey to get the cerb retested for its MOT I hit a slippery patch on the south bound carraige way of the A24 at the Washington roundabout, span it and hit a lamp post on the front offside wing. From looking at it I think its a write off.

I am lucky no one else was involved and that I walked away with no injuries.

I now obviously have to deal with the insurance. I have spoken to them and got a claim number and the car will be inspected next week. The insurance company is Manning and the underwriters are Allianz.

Has anyone got any tips with dealing with the insurance company to make sure I get the most for the car? What I want to do is buy the car back off them and strip it for parts. Anyone got any ideas on the best way to approach them on this?

The most frustrating thing is that I have spent 6 months rebuilding the suspension and most of the underneath and last weekend spent the best part of 1500 quid on a new clutch and service.

Sorry to hear about the car - TVRs are very unforgiving when it goes wrong!

Just be VERY grateful you walked away unscathed....

Well after spending all that time & money on what obviously is your P&J is it not worth trying to negotiate with your insurance company and have it repaired?Sorry to hear of your misfortune BTW.

Yeah ideally I would like it repaired but looking at how the twisted the front end of it is it might not be possible.

Has anyone used a loss adjuster?

Sorry to hear the news.

All I'd say is if it is written off and you haven't got an agreed value, don't take the first offer. Show them other examples up for sale and that yours was a good one with recent work done.

Sorry to hear of your accident. At least you are safe which is the main thing.

My Tuscan was destroyed by fire last year and I waited with some trepidation for the offer from my insurers (A Plan / Groupama). In the meantime I scoured the dealers ads for similar cars to mine so that I had a very clear idea of what I would need to spend on replacing the car. In the end they made me an offer that was more than fair and in fact slightly more than an almost identical car with slightly lower mileage was selling for at HHC.

It all depends on your insurers but be armed with plenty of examples of cars for sale just in case they come back with something silly. I've had no experience of Mannings except that when I asked them to quote they were always ridiculously expensive so I would expect them to pay out generously!

Good luck.

Really sorry to hear about this Mark, especially after all the work you've put in to it over the past months!

I'd would fight to get it repaired, and not written off. If it is written off, and then you buy it back and repair it, its only ever going to be worth 75% of normal resale.

Hope it all works out OK in the end for you though!

very sorry to hear this, but very pleased you're OK.

Hope she's repairable.

IIRC there's a PH'r with a good reputation for helping negotiate these things called Annie's Dad?

Bad luck dude. I was wondering how slippery the roads were going to be after that dry patch and the recent non stop rain.

I'm about to drive through there too.

Ouch, bill for a lamppost too as well then...

I suspect it'll be written off, mine was when I hit a lamppost 5 years ago. fibreglass and chassis damage usually means one thing.

It looks like I wrote my Tuscan off last week as well.
Going throught the same thing right now.
Insurance inspector is taking a look at my car next Tusday but I know the repair costs will be close to the value of the car.
Hard to smile at the moment.
Is it correct that you get first refusal on buying the car back for the parts ? Rebuilt engine etc.

I take it you saw the lampost then? It was quite bent and I knocked the lights out the top. If it was not for that post I would have probably just curbed the alloys.

Yep, same with my crash. Street furniture is a nightmare.

You got a fair way up from the roundabout. Did it break away suddenly?

yeah I was travelling in a straight line, not accelerating aggresively and it suddenly snapped sideways. I don't if it was oil or just a slippery patch on the road.

Really sorry to hear this Mark.

If there is the slightest chance that it could be repairable, then I would speak to Plasticman (Dave Hillis) who will rebuild it for you if at all possible.

Good luck and I hope the car can be saved. If not, I hope you will be able to get another one at some point.
