Whilst it’s thundering and lightning outside(!) I was wondering if anyone knows of any nice TVR friendly summers drives that can be had in the Hertfordshire area? Preferably involving a quaint country village/riverside pub (with beer garden) that serves roast lunches? I am based in London and travelling out via the A41, M1 or A1(M).

Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated (word of mouth recommendations are always best)

Many thanks
Jon

Grove Lock near Leighton Buzzard, just off the a505. Reasonably accessible from the m1 or a41 - the latter involving a nice blast round some country roads.

Let me know if you go as a few of us local Tivvers may go along too

This coming Sunday you could take a run-out to the monthly Herts/Beds TVRCC meet at the 3 Horseshoes pub on Harpenden East Common. A good pub with lots of open space, excellent food and, with a bit of decent weather, a good few cars too.

Normally kicks off from 12.30.

The Lytton Arms in Old Knebworth might be worth a punt. Although the quality of the food had gone downhill a little on my last visit, but the beer was still good (lots of different real ales).

It is also close to the decent road which goes from j6 of the A1(m) to Hitchin.

I'm not sure about the pub side of thing, but I recently enjoyed the road (A507 ?) from the Buntingford junction of the A10 heading towards Baldock.

Nice twisty open road, plenty of third gear corners and an absence of traffic.

That road from the A10 through Buntingford to the A1 is fun all the way. And there's a nuce pub in Buntingford on the green (just can't remember the name). It is way better going west than going east though.

Nice pub (Fullers ), but the (metalled) car park is small and the overflow car park is a pretty rough looking patch of meadow. I'm not sure how TVR friendly it would be.

Just to be clear, I was talking about the meadow, not the pub .

The Grove Lock is in a beautiful location but lacks any interesting ale, just your bog standard refreshments But the foods good and plenty of parking

The Grand Junction Arms in Bulbourne (near tring) is a bit more traditional andworth checking outas well...

Hi mate,

There is a fantastic set of books detailing walks and pubs in the Home Counties.

Ignore the walks bit and you will find the drive to the pubs are all awesome.

Can't remeber the title but will check and revert. The books are on sale in most Herts village shops.
