Am I crazy?!

Im currently planning the route and need some places to stay. Any suggestions?

Also, any route suggestions, fill in the gaps.
The route is sort of:

- Caen
- Le Mans
- ?
- ? Somewhere in Switzerland? Is it worth it? Worked there loads but dont know if its worth driving through.

- Lyon (if not Switzerland. Again worked there and surrounding area looked nice)

- Burmio (Italy), Start of the Stelvio Pass.
- Venice (or near to)
- Milan
- ?
- A few places around the south of France
- Bordeaux area
- a few stops up the east coast of France back to Caen.

BTW: thanks for the suggestions on my previous request. Im still looking into which ones I can use.
Thanks.

If you go to venice, shortest way back is going north through austria then into germany, absolutely beautiful roads! Even the motorway from salzburg to munich must have some of the best views ever!
Also were i live, north of venice, im near the motorway between venice and austria (udine), beautiful mountain roads and cheap nice hotels.... drop me a line if you need anything in this area.

Will defintily stay in that place shnozz.

Sacha, I'll drop you a line when I have more specifc questions, thanks.
We really want to take a long slow trip up the East of France though, not in a rush to get home! (well, I say that now but when Im almost well cooked from being in the Griff that long I may well want a short cut home!).

AS for the mad bit, I was referring to taking the Griff along the Stelvio Pass and its 51 hairpin bends!
I guess I may be needing a few sick bags!

We're down there Aug bank holiday week. Excellent roads, most of the Alpine passes are great, avoid the tunnel which is the quick/fume filled route and take the hilly route. Zoom Rumble Zoom (added effect for small tunnels there).

With regards to Switzerland, we stayed near Interlaken a few years ago on a similar trip in the Chimaera. Wengen is really nice and we went up the railway through (yes through) the Jungfraujoch muntain. I would recommend this area for a stopover.

We're planning on driving down/up through Belgium and Germany this time for a change, it's a slightly quicker route too.

See my other thread:
I'm in the Dordogne, so if you plan to visit the Bordeaux area, stop by; we have an excellent chef and some chalets. We can take the Griffs on some excellent roads here.

gerjo, Good chef, great views AND a fellow Griff owner?
I'll have to make sure I pop in to see you!

Targarama, That sounds interesting. Perhaps I will go through Switzerland then.
Im already planning the route for next time too and it takes in the Nurburgring

Could you go via Reims? There are only a few bits of the old circuit still standing but a piece of motorsport heritage none the less, IIRC it's kind of on the way to Lyon. You could do LM on the way back from Bordeaux instead.

What about Paul Ricard on the south coast? It's near Marseille/Toulon but is in the middle of nowhere so not much else to see round there.

How far is this trip going to be - it's got ot be 2000+ miles

well seeing as my trip was 1750 miles - www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=23&h=&t=107672 - this one is going to be closer to 3k I reckon....

Re the old circuit at Reims, make sure you have explicit instructions to find it before you go, I have read that its a nightmare to find if you dont!

You should back-plan your route from the 'Hoon itinerary - you know it makes sense, and it will give you a day or so of driving in company - go on, you know you want to!

What are the Hoon dates again? I have a feeling that they are on their way back as I arrive in France.

I reckon closer to 3000miles too. I guess I had better up the insurance policy a bit.
Shouldn't be a problem though, managed 10,000 miles in 6 weeks before and most of that was off-road. Although there wasnt that much to look at then!

I read an article recently about it - I'll see if it's got any detail in it about where to look.

Life is good in "la Douce France". Let me know when you're coming. Good journey and watch out for the gendarmerie: they recruited 20,000 policemen just to enforce the speedlimit!! They haven't caught me yet, but be very careful.
