Tour Spain in your TVR in 2005
Get to the sun, have fun, drive plenty...
If you saw the tour of Spain 2004 in the June 2004 issue of Sprint, the TVR Car Club's magazine, and missed it, you'll be glad to hear the trip will be repeated next year.
Provisional itinerary:
Saturday 2 April 2005 (the weekend after Easter): Depart for Bilbao from Portsmouth. The Pride of Bilbao is comfortable, has some great bars and restaurants and is ideal for a chill before Spain. It’s good for whale watching too.
Monday April 4: Arrive Bilbao and drive to Lerma, about 150 miles to get us into the swing of the empty Spanish roads. The Parador at Lerma is fantastic, built in a 16th century palace that dominates the old town with views over the Castilian plain, great for a first night.
Tuesday: Drive to Toledo, time for a stop in Madrid if you want, but Toledo is a fantastic ancient city and the Parador has outstanding views over it. Last year’s people found it breathtaking. Wednesday we go to Guadix for three nights. Mileage from Bilbao to Guadix is about 550.
Last year, the group held a track day at the circuit at Guadix and everyone praised the safe and effective way the team ran things. To keep the same atmosphere, the organisers have booked the circuit booked as before – if more people come than last time, the circuit will be booked for two days so people will still be able to have near-unlimited track time. It may be a long way from home but the track day will run to TVRCC guidelines. There is a rest day built in, so you can go skiing in the Sierra Nevada (there will be snow on the summits) down the coast – one pair got to Marbella last year, or if you feel really adventurous you can go to Africa for lunch!
Saturday: Depart for Jarandilkla de la Vera, a quiet village half way home to Bilbao where you will stay in the 14th century castle, again a Parador with some fantastic history.
Sunday/Monday: For the last night, you'll drive go to Santillana, a Parador just outside Santander and only an hour's drive or so from Bilbao where you'll catch the Monday morning ferry home arriving back at Portsmouth on Tuesday 12 April in the afternoon
General information
Every hotel has secure parking and 98 RON fuel is easily available at virtually every filling station at about 80 cents per litre (about 54p per litre).
As with last year the trip goes ahead if enough people want to go (10 cars at least are needed) Price is still being worked out but the organiser expects it to be around £1,300 per car with two occupants sharing a room. That will include ferries, hotels, dinner at the Paradors (four nights) and the track day. The only essential extras would be meals on board the ferry, three dinners and petrol.
Organiser Jasper Gilder reports that everyone had a fantastic time last trip, the Spanish were welcoming, the Parador hotels are stunning, the driving is easy and the surroundings are superb. Get to know more of the real Spain!

This wedge girl is waiting for the dates for mini eurohoon to be confirmed.
