Power to Weight
Discussion
Hmmm my new (zero miles) LS6 engine will make the Chimera have a NICE Power to Weight number.
405bhp and 400ft/lbs!!!!
LS6 in Chimera 500 1100kg / 405bhp = 368bhp/tonne
Taraka 1070kg /315bhp = 294 bhp/tonne
Std Chim500 1070kg / 275bhp = 257bhp/tonne (290-300 ft/lbs)
Chim450 1070kg / 240bhp = 224bhp/tonne (270ft/lbs)
Chim400 1070kg / 210bhp = 196bhp/tonne
LS6 C5 Corvette 1491 kg / 405bhp = 271bhp/tonne
Tuscan 1100kg / 360bhp = 327 bhp/tonne (290 ft/lbs)
TuscanRR/S 1100kg / 390bhp = 355 bhp/tonne (310ft/lbs)
Cerb4.5 ~ 1150 / 370bhp = 321bhp/tonne
575 Maranello 1730kg / 515bhp = 298bhp/tonne 426ft/lbs
Murcielago 1650kg / 580bhp = 351 bhp/tonne (471 ft/lbs)

Its is the hottest version of the all alley smallblock GM have been makeing for the Corvette since 97 - One I am buying is a 2005 spec New LS6 with 405bhp/400ft/lbs.
Next to no phyisical difference to an RV8 (well very slightly bigger dimensionally). Totally state of the art modern 5.7 (350 cu.in) engine not something derived from a small 50's Oldsmobile V8.

Er, actually, despite GM putting $1 billion into developing this engine (it goes in everything from Corvettes to trucks...) it is actually an evolution of the small block (originally an iron block - from the 50's...)- so you may notice it still makes use of pushrods etc. But it is an incredible motor, especially what poke it puts out.

Not really. There is not one single part interchangable between the 2.
The LS1/LS6 is totally new, designed from the outset for performance and economy. Just because it retains a classic design, doesnt mean its an updated version of the old SBC engine.
The potential of these engines is unreal.
It's not really an evolution of the small block as we know it because it's a brand new design which is continually evolving. There are bigger, newer versions of this engine available from GM but being newer they cost substantially more.
The LSx sets many new records for GM in terms of out right performance and also in the way some components are manufactured and have been improved on. Many parts are stronger yet lighter then those found on the iron block engines.
There is one part which carries over, just the one
Boosted.
