Residual value of a TVR after 3 years:
Model List Retained Value (3 Years)
Chimaera 4.5 £ 35135 £ 16050 (45.6%)
5.0 £ 36835 £ 17200 (46.6%)
Tamora £ 36655 £ 16800 (45.8%)
Cerbera S6 £ 41255 £ 18000 (43.6%)
4.2 £ 41255 £ 18000 (43.6%)
4.5 £ 46655 £ 20300 (43.5%)
Tuscan 3.6 £ 40005 £ 18000 (44.9%)
4.0 £ 48955 £ 20650 (42.1%)
Mid 40's, which is pretty good (your average repmobile is about 38% I think. Potential competitors like Porsche and BMW are between 10 and 20% better depending on model, but thats to be expected. They are usually more expensive tho (996 V Cerb, Boxster S v Tamora)

Residual values are used by teh finance trade to protect themselves. If they have to repsosses, or sell a car they want to ensure that they stand a chance of making a return, so they will undervalue your motor. Lets face it, what your TVR is worth is what someone is prepared to pay for it, and teh scarxcity of cars has an efect. For example - I wanted a 4.5 Cerbera in any colour but blue with less than 6K mileage last year. Took six months of graft to find one.
Remember too that any dealer worthe their salt will give you a nice trade in if they want to sell a new car to you. Lets not panic until we have to!

Well, it all sounds bollocks to me. I have a guaranteed £20K residual on my Tamora after 3 years.
Yes they lose money and an early Tuscan is only worth £25K trade in now, but it aint £18K.... so Car's figures are well out of touch IMO......

in reality those figures are about spot on, dont foget they are for 3yr old cars with 36k miles....
3 yrs back would be a 99/S Cerb, a 4.2 with 36,000 miles would do well to raise 20k trade or private, likewise a S reg Chimera with 36,000 miles would do well to make 18k trade or private sale.
When you factor in the much lower mileages they cover they are undoubtedly worth a bit more. The Tuscan is still a year too new for comparison currently, but when you think of the number of cars up for £25-£26,000 in top marques after 2 years and with sub 8,000 miles on the clock, the day of a £20,000 Tuscan will come - especially for one with nigh on 40k on the clock.

18K for an X reg Tuscan next year??? Sorry, I doubt it. Not unless Chims and Griffs are going mainly for under 9K, which means that S's would be worth about 2K and a classic Vixen of Grantura - well they would be free of charge!
Depreciation is not linear, cars lose most value in year 1, and then less after that per year. I just sold my 1996 Chimp for 16K and it was 6 years old and 32K when new. 50% in 6 years! Trying doing that with a Mondeo. In my mind, if you have a good car hang on to it. If you need to sell, don't sell cheap - it just brings the price of everyone's cars down.
