Thought I'd just post a note to tell you that Porsche Boxters can be a little unreliable!
The channel 4 programme 'Driven' was today testing a Tamora against a Boxter. After the test, two of each model were made available for those members of the public who attended to have a thrash around the airfield!!! Oh joy of joys!!

I feel it my duty, after all the bad press TVR gets, to report that both the Boxters suffered the indignity
of cooked clutches. One had only 1200 miles on the ticker!!!!
The Tamoras, God bless 'em, went on to fight another glorious day!
TVR 2 Porsche 0 !!

As an aside, I thought Bentwaters had been closed for track days...?

Am I the only one who thinks Driven will arrange it so it does not show the 'bullet proof' porkers breaking down?

Still Nice to hear about it though.

Nice to again hear evidence that Stuttgart is as capable of cock-ups as Blackpool.

I did get a call on Wed to take part in the Driven thing, but couldn't make it (joy of being a company Director), was it a good day out, or just 4 or 5 hours of waiting around?

Any sighting of real cars actually in motion is entirely coincidental these days, the programme is so full of crappy puerile stunts

Maybe it's still available for private hire?

Digga, you didn't miss a lot to be honest. It was 5/6 hours of standing around.
You didn't get a chance to drive the cars till near the end, and as there were way to many people invited along as spectators, would have to wait an age to get a chance of driving them.
Interesting to see what goes on though behind the scenes though. Could have been an interesting day out if things had been better organised.

Sorry Guys there is no footage of the Boxsters dying. They were pushed away and left for Porsche to collect them. Don't think Drivel will upset Porsche by slagging off the reliability, etc. They clearly thought the Porsche's would win and seemed ever so slightly miffed when everybody went to the Tamora. They even demanded a recount, and even with Brewer and Plato giving the Boxster their vote they could not beat the Tamora.

The Tamora was not faultless, with a washer pipe falling off, but this was soon fixed and business resumed as normal. Hardly major given the abuse it was getting!

The finest site of the whole day was the Boxster being pushed into position at the end, whilst the TVR was driven into position. Great cheering went on and Posche Boster Register members stood around looking embarassed. We even got a Porsche owner to swap sides and vote for the Tamora. No TVR owners went over to the other side.

Mission accomplished. England 1, Germany 0.

Hi Jason,
After one of these tests it's usual for everyone to pick the car of their choice and stand beside it. The TVR won, but all three presenters, to much cat calling and heckling, chose the Porky.
Afterwards, my other half approached them and asked if, given their bias towards the Porsche, they would be reporting in the programme that their chosen cars had frazzled both clutches and they assured him(!) that they would report that in the programme. We will see!!!

Perhaps we should try and exert a bit of pressure to ensure the truth gets out!

I can understand the presenters opting for the Porsche - It is, after all, a better all-round car than the Tamora. It is more reliable, (allegedly!!) and has a powered hood, ABS and all them tricks, it drives itself whilst you steer, brake, accelerate, and the nanny computers sort it all out.

However, the Tamora does what it says on the tin, only faster, more outrageously, and with bigger smiles!

Can't we post this on the Porker forum ?

We have to take so much stick about their Tutonic build quality it's about time we struck back & chased them out of town like common pygmies

Driven one, nubbin? I have. The Boxster S is a fun drive too, you know. I haven't driven a Tamora but will soon. I do drive a Chimaera regularly, mind. And I've test driven a Tuscan too.

As you rightly point out a Boxster S has all the modern gubbins and is generally a class act...as a daily driver this often helps head over heart decisions but don't write off the entertainment it can give....

As to frying two clutches. Wow! Porsche will be seriously embarrassed (as they should be) .. if this is a generic fault on the new model year cars it'll have to be fixed BEFORE they ship them to customers....I hope Drivel doesn't let them off too lightly...

I'll bet Nic and the Boxster register were bright red too poor buggers.
