No more Factory Service or Body shop from Monday
Discussion
Just had an email today saying:
"Hi Nick,
Just thought I would let you know the following information.
As of Monday of this week, there is no longer a service or crash repair department at the factory and you will now have to go to a dealership.
I am sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause you.
Regards
Lesley"
A real shame, ive always taken my car to the factory for everything and the sevice has been first rate. Sad to see an end to it. I also wonder why?

Since servicing on a TVR is more expensive than many other brands of cars (and more frequent), I would have thought that this would have been a good profit centre for them. Surely it doesn't reduce their ability to manufacture more cars.
I hope that TVR haven't made people at the factory in the service dept redundant as they were easily some of the best around.

Me too - Leslie, Ray, Eric & Heath - not to mention Mike Williams have all been complete stars.
It was visiting the factory & getting Heath to glue a few new bits onto the car which lead me to finding the Elephant. It was also the same path which lead PW to buying the company in the first place.
The end of an era
.. but if it allows the factory to focus on what they do best - then I'm sure we all wish them well

I cant believe this topic has not had more attention!
All you boys with SP6 problems are not gonna be able to call the factory re rebuilds. I am not gonna be able to call the factory re my AJP8.
I must admit I liked the personal touch of being able to deal direct. I remember when I bought my first TVR, a very early S in 1987, and various "mishaps" happened. Such as the gear lever coming off in my hand!
A quick call to the factory and "ah yes sir, we have had a few do this!" we will senf you parts out!

Good news for TVR Craft I would imagine! All very timely too. Mind you TVR Power still do re-builds and some dealers may start doing them, I know Henley used to, not sure about the new guys, there was a fair few SP6's in bits in there workshop when I was in there a week or so ago, so I guess so. Nice bunch too.
Regarding the rebuilds, I was told that I must take the car to the dealer who would remove the engine and send it back to the factory to have the work done. Now that sounds like they are still doing the work but the dealer is acting as the middle man. On this basis I think the chances of doing a deal on the cost is over and done with

Sounds like a very true statement. Not too many decisions are based on just for the hell of it - well those relating to companies as opposed to should I really have another Guinness
A lot of time things will be changed that, to the not informed (inc me) seem a step back yet in a couple of months they make sense and are a step forward…………………. You never know the MG factory could be doing your next rebuild
! There are many of us out there that do servicing, if you're in the Hearts/Beds/Bucks area or just fancy a bit of a drive to have you TVR serviced give us a call.. TopCats Racing
What did anyone expect ?
They will turn into just another car manufacturer looking for big profits.
This will be the thin end of the wedge (if you'll pardon the pun), as far as customer/factory contact goes.
Soon we'll be getting lectured about how the market dictates this and that, etc, etc.
Oops, do I sound cynical ?

After the experience I have had with TVR I am not surprised they are stopping doing service, it certainly looks like there are more competant and cheaper services up and down the country.
I have to say that my last experience of factory service was exactly that, the last. The car was not looked after
as it should have been and I think more than one of the jobs done it were performed with haste. Therefore had to take the car back yet again to make them do it properly. I was very disappointed (after having previously good experiences there) and decided it probably would not be going ther again anyway.
The problem is finding anyone who can meet the standards I expect - I have an axe to grind about everyone who has ever done any work on my car who aslways manage to: miss something, try to rip me off, damage something, lose something. IMHO there is a niche for a higly competent good quality independent out there to look after these cars.
