15" tyre shortage

First Toyo, now Goodyear. Toyo are not doing the T1R in a W rating and now Goodyear have discontinued the GSD tyre (205/55/ZR15 size). Options are becoming very limited to SP9000 (Dunlop) and Michelin (or derivatives of - ie Kleber).
This isn't hearsay - I've got this from both Toyo and Goodyear.

Second that...I'm going through the same myself at the mo as I need 2 new fronts (205/50 or 55/15s)for my 99 Chim 500 non PAS, plenty of choice at the low end, but if you want Z rated then ya choice is limited.
There's more choice for 16s, 17s & 18s ............I guess that's due to the fashion for larger alloys nowadays and the fact cars produced today with 15'' alloys are the corsas / 106s / saxos which don't get upto the speeds the old tiv on 15s gets upto.
Is this a sign were getting phased out?

FFG - it might be worth you talking with Deputy Editor Howard who has a good contact at Toyo.
Thought they were keen to keep the TVR business.
You could raise it on the TVR CC site.

Any ideas if the Toyo R888's are available in 15's 
tempted to try these next time as I don't rate Poxies at all.
But then I might get myself a set of 17's and pop the 'trackday tyres' on them
You do get looked at strange in your local tyre dealer when you ask for a 15" tyre in a high speed rating, even my new run about is on 18's

I spoke with Malcolm Robinson at Toyo who was speaking to Japan to try and convince them to produce a W rated tyre. Unfortunatley, he was unsuccessful. As has been said alloys are 18, 19 and 20" now so little demand for 15".
I'll drop Howard a line.

This should be one of the powerful things a car club can do - get stocks of stuff like this because there is x demand from our members.
The problem is theres only 2 wheels on each car that are 15" (not sure about the S series) and all the new cars Cebera and on have larger wheels. So its alittle unfair to expect the car club to buy all the remaining stock to sell on to members. I hit this problem and have now put 16" all round. When they stop producing the 16" tyers then Im in trouble!

Can't be difficult to do the math, say 200 V8S's (15" all round), 2500 Chims (15" fronts), 1000 Griffs (15" fronts) = in excess of 7000 ZR rated 15" tyres required by TVRs alone. Say change their tyres say on average once every three years = at least 2500 of them a year.
Figures above have been round up/down to suit
, no seriously that roughly takes into acount changes in wheel sizes and cars left on the road etc IMHO. Certainly would make a compelling case for someone to introduce a good tyre and corner the market.
I've tried the numbers game with both Toyo and Goodyear and they weren't interested - 7,000 is obviously chicken feed to them. Dunlop SP9000 is still made and Goodyear/Dunlop have some sort of relationship as Goodyear told me that the only tyre in their "family" to satisfy the requirement was the SP9000.

Tyres like Dunlops might fit but are made for much heavier cars and as a result don't get up to temp - offering no grip.
Finally got there...................I've just ordered a pair of Toyo T1-Rs from motorsport wheels in Bristol for the front of my Chim.

Apparently supplies aren't a problem with only a 2 day wait to get them in.
I went for a 205/50/15 Z for £58 each, fitted/balanced/vat.
Decided to go for these rather than the T1-S as you can't get hold of the 245/45/16s for the rear in a S for love nor money, oh.....and the fact the Rs are the newer model.
They also do a 205/55/15s for £80 fitted.

Think you'll find the T1R is only a V rating and too low for the car.
I'd check PDQ. They don't do a ZR in the 15".
