Not Happy Christmas to me.
Discussion
Had the car down at APM on Saturday and Andy confirmed my worst fears. My Cerbera's Speed Six engine has gone wrong again and needs some TLC in Blackpool.
Had a problem with the car idleing, which we haven't managed to get to the bottom of yet. The factory had suggested that this problem may be caused by the valve seats moving out of position.
Andy did some compression tests on a few of the valves/cylinders and they were between 30-65% below normal readings. Only solution is a rebuild at the factory.
I'm gutted, its only been 11 months since the last time this happened, and the nightmare that ensued trying to get the thing fixed, very nearly put me of TVR ownership for good.
Can't even find out where I stand at the moment either because the TVR guys and girls are all on holiday. I'll have to hope that TVR will be nice and help me out. If I have to go through what I went through last time I think I'll have to hang up my TVR coat and try another marque.
Bugger !

Don't give up on TVR, just get one with a Rover V8. Sounds better and doesn't come with chocolate cam followers.

Bandit, sorry to hear the news mate, I can empaphise as mine has been back 4 times now, I know what you mean mine is on it's last chance, I am going to look at a VW R32 over Christmas and order one in prep for when mine goes again.
Chin up, they do give a good grin factor when running smooth. See you around kent over the Christmas period....

Cheers guys....needed a bit of sympathy (as strangly enough the girlfriend seems to have none for my predicament
)
Mental note: maybe I should have taken her on that flash holiday instead of spending all that money on the car this year??
Ah well, I have to wait until the TVR lot get back to work to find out whats going to happen.... got my fingers crossed that they will be nice to me !
Happy Xmas everyone anyways !

Ah girlfriends, they just don't understand!
I continually get an ass kickin' over the realiability of my cars. If she had her way she would have me in a brand new Mini
, then I wouldn't lose all that money! Apart from the 3 grand you lose as soon as you drive off the forecourt!
...and of course all that money she spends on shoes and dresses, etc that she only wears once is perfrectly acceptable
Edited to say -- I'm not making light of your bad luck by the way, that's a bummer, sorry.

bad luck. sorry to hear that. i can understand why you would want to jack them in after all that. it is not knowing that is the worst but i would find it difficult to understand if tvr wouldn't hep you out after having the thing rebuilt so recently.
if they are not any help then go buy something else - and make sure they understand your reasons.
if they do sort it - hurray! get a bigger garage

Perhaps I missed what you meant, but where did you have the work done last time. How many miles have you done since the last rebuild on the head. Have there been different engines in speed six's or are they all the same. Is it only early ones that suffer this or later ones. any one else had this problem?

Had the last rebuild done at Blackpool with 16k on the clock. 11 months later the car is up to 24k. Not sure what the problem was last time as TVR refused to give out information about what they had done to the engine...although the symptoms were similar to whats happened this time.
There are variants of the Speed Six engine now (4.0 and 3.6 litre I think). As my car is a 1999 model, they only had the 4.0 litre engine available then. I'm pretty sure that the S6 Cerberas all ship with the 4.0 litre anyway, the 3.6 litre is just for the Tamoras and Tuscans.... (I may be wrong about that!).
Unfortuantly the problems with the Speed Six engines still appear to be happening, even with the latest models.
I wish they'd sort it out !

This would now make me think that you are on a winner concerning the repair. TVR apparently appear to be happy to ''settle'' on these obscure problems as they would not like the public to think they have a general problem with the speed six (understadably) As there is not a rush from other speed six owners to confirm a problem, it may well be that only a few cars are suffering from this.
good luck on the bill!

granted there may not be a rush of speed 6 owners saying their engines also went pop, (mine has been to Blackpool at least 4 times and we are on engine No2 at only 6000 miles) But surely they should sort these problems out before it is the bullet that brings them down. My tamora is great when she goes but if it wasn't for the engine problems i would not be so sceptical when I am told "this time we THINK we have sorted it"
