Motors TV - Friday 28 April 2006

21:00 RACE & RALLY UK

The United Kingdom is a hotbed of modern day and vintage rally and racing competition, this programme brings it all to the airwaves in one tidy package.

I have just watched this! It has to be the worst TV coverage of Motor Racing I have ever seen! The commentator was just appalling and made James Allen look and sound like a pro! The endless mistakes ended with the wrong race result at the end of the show! The cameras were skaking all over! Such a shame when I remember the great coverage of the late 1990's! However there is no excuse for that terrible commentator!!!!!

D'you know... exactly our comments last night.

What a difference to the commentating of previous Tuscan Challenges where the commentry was as exciting as the races.

In his defence, the race at Oulton was pretty spread...but the fight at Silverstone between Darren and Tim was just 'edge of the seat' stuff.

He interviewed Darren Dowling, then asked him where he'd qualified on the grid ???!!!!!
Oh...says Darren..err..Pole

He commentated with about the same amount of enthusiam as someone about to have a wisdom tooth pulled..........without anesthetic.

And PLEASE would any driver who knows that commentator tell him that Sagaris is pronounced SAGaris and not
saGARis.

Okay.....rant over......

Graham.......look at you though, interviewed......fame at last

Hello YP!.

The Commentator has recently joined Pistonheads, his name is Ian Sowman. He may be a decent chap but a decent commentator and media star HE IS NOT!!!

Ian you need to go on Brian Jones' crash course on commentry! I could hear the tannoy and it was far better than you!

Can anyone hear do a better job? I bet they can! So follow the following instructions!

1 Record the footage off Motors TV on VHS! (if you have no Sky, get a friend to do it)

2. Watch the race and make notes.

3. As this is recorded, check driver's comments on PH.

4. Check times and results on MST!

5. Write a script

6. Record your commentry over the "Race And Rally" programme and send to the production company AMG!

Helmet Hair or what though !!!! next time i see a camera im going to have to dive into the makeup truck

To Be honest given the budgets i didnt think the coverage was that bad, there were a few schoolboy errors, such as displaying the silverstone qually as the race results at the end..., Although I have conditioned myself by watching race and rally uk for a while

Unfortunately the comments by Reg are somewhat typical of PH these days and one of the reasons I don't post often. I think they are overly critical, far too personal and don't take into account the current situation in TVR motorsport. We are no longer in the great days of tuscan racing with 30 car grids, and big crowds on a high profile calender. We are running on a relatively low profile Dunlop program with maybe 15 cars at the present time.

I agree there were mistakes in the programme, particularly showing the Oulton result after the Silverstone round BUT the TVRs are back on TV. I think this is an achievement in itself because TVR racing was in doubt a little while back. I think everyone is entitled to an opinion but I would like to see much more constructive criticism rather than a kicking. The Oulton round wasn't a great race with the cars quite spread out, I think even JH & MW would have struggled to make it seem exciting. I thought the Silverstone coverage was much better and good to watch, I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the Fiesta / Escort coverage too.

TVR racing needs everyones support and TV coverage in any form is good news for us. But the best way to see TVRs race is to come along and watch, meet the drivers, hear and smell the cars, watch the action close up and make your own commentary if you like.

Reg, I really hope you visit the paddock at a TVR race this season. I think you'll find everyone is doing the best they can and we welcome all supporters. Ian (the commentator), it's great to have you in the paddock and I hope we put on a good race for you at Castle Combe on Monday (1st May).
