Must say I've been kinda wary of most Scoobys and Evos for the last few months due to their superior traction and renowned all-weather, gizzmo'd capabilities, plus you never know quite which model you're behind . Imagine my pleasure earlier today with the Tiv all shiney & polished and me out with the roof down (of course) when nutter in bespoilered silver WRX hoofs it round the A19 roundabout North of Tyne Tunnel as if the muts nuts were verily made in Japan. Problem is, soon after, at about 80, he finds me in his mirror where only there was crystal blue a second before. So he makes the mistake of changing down, the traffic clears and it's a lovely straight dry uphill road. Evo's 'The Knowledge' figures jump into my head so I know he's really going to struggle, but there was just no struggle to be had. Feet to the floor in fourth and the words baby & candy seem appropriate . Didn't have time to wave (the roof-off experience is fierce at the speed we're now doing), but it settled my mind as to which I'd rather have. So! - don't feel all out-Scoobied in the dry, just pick your entry speed carefully and embarras 'em. Not that I usually drive like this, of course. And not that I'd ever take on a P1, you understand. Well, any other WRX stories 2B had? Just passing the time - Tant.

ps. just don't ask me to keep up with one in the snow/mud/slightest drizzle/threat of a hint of a possibility of rain, etc etc!

Nice one , Tant - you,re dead right about the scooby - my bro has one which I took for a blast in pissing rain on country road and could not beleive the fantastic grip it had in appalling conditions! The Chim would have been in a ditch in the first corner... but at the end of the day its still a Jap box and I wouldn't swap in a million years

Remember that Subaru track-day I took you on, Tantivy. In the wet. In the Chimaera.
We were holding our own on the corners, so I reckon there ain't that much in it even in the wet.

In the dry my Chimaera is definately faster around Knockhill than my P1 (at least in my hands - having been sat next to Robbie Head, I know that in the right hands the P1 can go substantially quicker)

Criag, you are probably quite correct if you just have "wet" road (i.e. on a track) - remember the Stig from TG was only 4 seconds slower in the Suzikui....

However, roads tend to have all sorts of other c**p on them - it's at that point that 4 wheel traction realy starts to come into it's own...

Blimey - My P1 will p155 all over my Chimp 450 in the dry - and in the wet ...... need I say more !!

Is the P1 on P Zeros? Mine started going off after about 6000 miles and lost loads of grip - made the car understeer badly which then became progressive oversteer. I've put a new set on and it sticks like brown smelly stuff to a blanket again!!

PS. Chimp's more entertaining though

Yes - surprised me just how much grip your SO2s had that session - they really were shifting some water - interesting to hear that your P1 ain't much faster (even with Alcons?). As you say - down to the driver ultimately - am sure I'd be slow in both!. Well, I guess I'll just have to wait for one to come along on the open road...

ps. check out me stuffing my face at McDonalds on the way to Noel's! (Sprint NE Report!!). And hi to baby D.

Yeah, had that - P1 is now on it's second set of SO3PPs, which I find to be excellent.
I think it's a combination of 2 things -
1/ I have been lucky to get an excellent Chim 450 (quicker than most 500s I've been in)
2/ My driving style has adapted such that I feel more comfortable driving the Chim fast on the track, than the P1. The TVR needs smooth flowing inputs, whereas the Scooby needs more "scruff of the neck" driving.

Oh sure, when the roads get all greasy with salty water or snow, the TVR tends to stay at home

At a recent donington track day (in the wet and cold) my griff 500 was pulling away, and i mean opening up a gap of at least 300 yards on a 3/4 mile dunlop bridge str8 over a 911 and several scobbies of all different states of tune.

I came onto the dunlop str8 in 4th at 3000rpm and booted it and did not change up to 5th until 5500rpm, c. 120-130mph at change up per the gearing. Left them for dead.

God knows what it would have been in the dry!!!!
