I thought i must tell this story (not in the habit of gossiping) i rung a well known indi dealer near the south coast today to get a price on my tuscan 2006 (s) convertible 4000 miles full leather, olins,ect, ect, ect,
PRICE £25000
They recon they can now pick up 1996 -1997 chims for
PRICE £3500
They say that tvrs second hand are (at the moment, worthless)
THIS CANNOT BE RIGHT (can it)
EDIT to say, very nice people to talk too,
at least they were honest (looks like the saggy will not be coming my way yet. SIGH

Now TOVIE there's an awful thing called a market and when people want something eg a Chimaera in 1998 the prices stay up. When people don't want something, for instance when the company making that product doesn't know if its factory is open or closed, can't order parts for the thing its making and hasn't put any new product on the market for years and there's safer nearly as quick cheaper competition then generally the prices fall.
Welcome to the world of non-existent TVR residuals, I paid £28k for a 7k miles S6 Cerb just over two years ago. Spent a fortune getting it right, value now less than £18k if that.
The really worrying thing is that really fast RWD cars are now available to FWD Max Power reading chavs who will crash and send our insurance up as well!

A 4k miles 2006 Tuscan S vert is worth much more than £25k, don't bother to listen to one dealer taking the urine. Of course he'd try it on, they always do. At anything under £30k there would be a stampede in the classifieds once you'd managed to convince everyone that there wasn't something dodgy about it. A straight car for that money would sell very quickly.
Heck I'd buy it myself for £25k and stick it in the classifieds for £35k tomorrow. Cars are still selling in the classifieds and the asking prices are still pretty firm on the whole. ie 2005 Sagaris's are rarely asking less than £40k and they seem to be selling.
Depreciation sucks but it's a virtually inescapable part of life. And contrary to perception, buying a Porsche isn't going to avoid it either. I figure £10k depreciation is fair enough given the amount of fun you can have from 12 months of TVR ownership.
It's going to cost me but I'm enjoying my Sagaris too much to sell it. Ideally I never will, then the only way depreciation will affect me will be in reducing my insurance premium!

Quite agree, parked next to a Saxo maxed up the other day at the petrol station. the guys inside were straining to look over my car at a Fiesta RS Turbo on the road. Don't get me wrong not bothered and the RS is not a bad car, just get the view TVR's don't 'float their boat'.
As for £3.5K for a chim, sure its possible but in what condition, you can pick up Tuscans for less than £15k but how much work will they need?
When I let the Tamora go in January we were very lucky that the dealer who sold it to us took it back for £29K (Bought for £37K only 4 months previously).
When I looked to get out of it, a vw dealer called 4 TVR dealers inc. Indies and no one would touch it.
A main TVR dealer said the car was only worth £24K but was prepared to give me £31K if he could inflate his Subaru Impreza Spec C by £4K.

Buy for one price (if you can) and sell for a higher price. Ain't that how businesses work? Similarly, if you don't like the price, then neither buy nor sell. The market will pretty soon tell you if you took the right decision!
I hope you dont think i was having a go at the dealers, i no times are hard at the moment, but to lose £24,000 in 5 months is a bit hard to take, i have lost a few bob with my last 4 tvr,s but NEVER this much, the saggy will have to wait as i do love this vert very much, but the new saggy just does it for me.

Damn straight. Tell them to sit and spin, whilst you take your business elsewhere.
I am a firm believer that if an Indie/dealer is prepared to bend you over and shaft you on trade in, they will do the same when it comes to service time, etc.
Why not have a go at the dealers? After all they are trying to take the pi$$ out of you. I phoned a well known dealer on here down south when thinking of selling my T350 some time back. What they offered me was £7k short of what I got private!! Even then I'd sold it cheap. Same dealer had 'lesser' cars up for £5k more than I got. They may be 'nice' to talk to, but the devil will smile at you as he takes your soul.

When I was thinking of buying my Tuscan, I had a three month old Mondeo ST220 (book price for a new one at the time was £23500).
The TVR dealer I phoned for a trade in price offered me £12000.
Yet nearly new ones were on the dealers' forecourt for £19-21000.

Was the price offered as a buy in for stock or a part-ex price? If it's the former that would explain it, end of summer coming, uncertainty and nothing to make money against. At that price they are effectively not interested, so walk away and enjoy your car!Why are you thinking of changing so soon?

He's a dealer. It's his job to run down prices when he's buying and, conversely, run them up when he's selling. It's what they do. Would you ask a Labout politician who you should vote for?
I was looking for a s/h saloon car recently. Saw one I liked in a dealers and the salesman summed me up with no problem. He knew how much I'd pay. I don't know how. But he was good at his job and I was foced to pay top dollar despite going away for a week making out I couldn't go to that much. It's what they do, day in and day out. You can't blame them any more than you can blame a plumber for mending a leak.
It is all very irritating though.
