My dad has just rung me at work to say he's heard a news bulletin saying TVR has just shut the factory with the loss of 200 jobs.

Please tell me it's not true cry

Some news on Sky

""We are not closing, we are just moving production,"

The spokesman said the firm was looking for a smaller site with better facilities.

It does keep staggering from one disaster to another , and after all the statements they have been making about a new factory and that Blackpool is their home

TVR decision making...

We're moving
We're staying in Blackpool
We're moving to a new site in Blackpool
We're not moving to a new site for another two years
We're relocating production to another country

I wonder what it'll be next week.

I think really it should remain in England. That's where its heart lies. I can't see many people wanting to buy a car from them if they move to Europe.

Totally the case, on an entirely emotional level, this is a crushing tragedy however inevitable.

yes

If they move from this country and even, perhaps, the North West, it'll be commercial suicide.

Sad if true but commerical suicide? I think they've committed that already? This is probably their only chance of survival ... there's a whole world out there - they have to look a lot further than suppplying Pistonheads members with cars - maybe the money saved by paying their new workers (once trained) will be put into Type Approval or whatever for the other world markets. Is this feasible? Cos if they're only relying on sale in the UK and Europe the end is nigh IMO.

Agreed. Given the general drubbing dished out to NS over the cars, the purchase of TVR, the Speed 6 engine and the rose-tinted spectacled view of PW, does it really surprise anyone..?

Great shame.

Noble are a succesful British company who have a lot of their manufacturing done in South Africa. Could this be what TVR will be doing in the future?
