Note to Mods: please don't delete this, I think it's a relavent, but different topic to the main one with people adding their condolences / thoughts about TVR.

Ok, so now what? Does anyone think that the values of TVRs are going to plummet? Do you think that SP6 engined models are going to be hit harder than say the RV8 modles such as Chims, because their engines are made by TVR etc.......?

As someone about to buy, I just wanted to open discussion to see what people think.

We don't even know what the deal is. We've heard it all before - moving / not moving, Britain / abroad, the lot. It's far to early to judge what the effect will be.

In any case, and more importantly, speculation on the residual value of the cars today, of all days, is in very bad taste, when there are 250 families wondering what lies in store for them this Christmas and for the foreseeable future.

You've lost a few grand on your wee toy. They may have lost nearly everything.

They'll drop obviously, as no-one is going to believe a single word TVR say for quite some time.

Long term who knows ? The company could go either way.

My guess would be a short term devaluation followed by a strengthening in demand for good 'uns as the laws of supply and demand dictate.

Enirely up to you whether you'd lump S6 models as good 'uns

Agreed, however that's why i've kept this post separate. This is called a 'discussion' forum after all isn't it? Whether the topic is in good or bad taste is irrelavent, a large percentage of what is talked about on here is speculation a lot of the time. This is a valid topic and I see no reason why it should be closed.

Yes, since this is a motoring forum with strong ties to TVR, let's not go discussing something as inconsequental as the closure of the factory and its effect on the residual values of our cars, eh?

And the forum is a poorer place for that.

Evidently. We'll have to disagree on that one - I can't be bothered arguing, you either see it or you don't.

I know, silly isn't it? We live in enough of a nanny state as it is, without being censored on things like forums, where freedom of speech rules. I kept this topic separate for a reason, and although it might be a sensitive matter to some, it's still completely relavent. I was looking for some intelligent discussion, not the PC brigade coming along and ruining it.

Is it closing completely or is it not? Is it moving abroad lock stock and barrel or is it not? If so, will some assembly remain here like Noble etc? Without the answers to these questions and more, speculation is a waste of time. Well to me, anyway.

If you read a lot of the threads posed on a daily basis, a large proportion of what people talk about is speculation, also known as discussion.

I think that owners of new(ish) TVR would be slightly worried by the news for a number of reasons.

If TVR up sticks will it continue trading as TVR or will it change its name & start afresh TVR Eng. for example. What happens to warranties on cars ?

Supplier issues ? TVR seemingly struggles with suppliers a 100 miles away. Whats it going to be like from 1000's of miles away ?

Dealers ? Will TVR keep 'all' its current dealers. How far are owners going to have to travel to get a service.

Just to name a few.

Could all be rubbish, who knows.

Still a concern though.

Also known as total shite in many cases.

Very valid point. I am someone who is on the point of purchasing a tvr, a nice 4.2 cerbera. I am based in the south of france and was advised to go for a griff or chimaera ovet the cerb sa it would be easier to look after without a specialist. I found the cerbera and am meant to get it next week, ferrying it back to the uk to get it serviced. My main concern will be depreciation and then back up spares etc. Unless I get the full software package etc and have it all done here.

I think, like a lot of things, panic is exaggerated in many people by the media. There's always a solution and a fix, if it becomes harder to get them fixed by TVR, it will create a new niche and specialists with the right kit will begin to appear, who can sort the engines and who will get parts machined to spec etc.
