I was made redundant a few years ago.

It was a devastating experience – Over 40, mortgage, two kids, bills etc and in November with Christmas approaching : I went through a pretty awful few weeks and can Imagine what the TVR folk are going through right now.

I did all the right job search stuff and once I’d got my act together ended up in a new and actually better job than I’d been in. So there is hope!

I didn’t find the job through the papers or an agency, like many people found it through my business network:

There seem to be many PHers who are involved either directly or indirectly with the motor trade and its connected industries – would it be an idea to post any openings people hear about that might be helpful to the ex TVR workforce here on PH ?

I know PH isn’t a recruitment web site but under the circumstances what do you think?

If I’m barking up the wrong tree Ted or one of the mods please let me know.

At this kind of time every job lead helps

Mike

Just one of a number of adverts, the industry is looking for engineers, people with mechanical backgrounds etc, possible rotation work on/offshore.

I hope it is of some interest

I did originally wonder at skills going to waste and could certain more specialised services be offered by ex workers in small industrial units?

Exactly what, not sure, maybe retrimming or a chassis restoration and protection services for older cars (zinc / POR15 rather than a squirt of WaxOyl)?

Obviously these things can be done already by existing companies, so the value for money aspect would need to be moved forward (probably through having small / simple facilities)?

I live and work in Aberdeen. The Oil and Gas industry is extremly bouyant at the moment and as such O & G operators and service companies are having a tough time finding expreienced eningeers/ mechanical trades of all disiplines and skill levels to work on/ offshore and in overseas locations.

The big agencies in aberdeen are 'AAA', Bryant Group, Raeburn Recruitment, Strategic Resources. But a google search will bring up plenty.

Also run a 'fish4jobs' search in the abedeen area. This is linkled to the Local Press (Prees & Journal/ Evening Express) which have a weekly recruitment section in their Friday and Wednesdeay editions respectivly.

I know its not working and building ace sports cars, but you can earn good bread.

Hope this is of use.
