Any recommendations on tyre pressures for trackday novice tomorrow (Goodwood)? Bog standard Griff 500 with SO3s.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would try around 26 to 28. Certainly over 30 and the car will slip and slide like a good un!

I check the pressures when I arrive at the track & then pump them up by 2psi all round.
See you there (hopefully - see my thread in the trackdays forum!).

Agree with Steve 26/28 as the upper limit, but since the weather is still pretty cool and you're a novice (and therefore presumably not 4-wheel drifting round every corner) you may not need to raise the pressure at all. I suggest you start at your normal pressures (I expect this will be in the region of 22/24?), do a gentle ten minute session, come in and check the tyre temps. If they're nice and warm that's OK. If they're too hot to touch, you need to slow down and/or raise the pressure by 1 or 2 psi. Make sure you measure the pressure hot before you start pumping them up as they will pick up several PSI as they heat up. My guess is you will find the tyres getting no more than luke warm and you won't need to change the pressure at all. But in any case DO check the pressures all round before you start, and check again as a matter of course during the day.

I only left my tyres (S03's on a Griff) at standard pressure once. The wear rate was rather alarming

Shouldn't affect the wear rate unless you overheat them. Overheating can occur regardless of the pressure, so it is important to keep an eye on them through the day. Ditto brake temperatures and pad wear rate.

It made a big increase to shoulder wear on the nearside tyres, esp the front.

Plus 10% seems to work quite well

Could be completely unrelated, by excessive tyre wear on the outer shoulder under heavy cornering is one symptom of tyres that are too wide for the rim? But I guess it could come from other factors like too little -ve camber, dodgy toe-in or just the fact that the car is rolling a lot in corners. In any case, if raising the pressure works for you then that's the main thing.

could be that the car is understeering in the corners, probably due to too higher speed into the corner and turning in whilst braking.

brake in a stright line, turn in late into apex applying the power earlier and therefore getting higher exit speed and terminal straight speed.

best / fastest way for griff's IMHO.

kinder to tyres, car and faster!

if i'm teaching you to suck eggs...sorry

(ps...and everything greenv8s said!)
