Posted earlier in the week talking about my unfortunate accident in my 2001 tuscan a couple of weeks ago, the garage has now informed me that the paint for my car is now unavailable!!! Its a chameleon blue (swordfish) colour and allegedly there is no more being brought into the country and none available from paint suppliers such as dexter paints (who supplied tvr). A chap from ph (well known) Gerbil has told my garage this today and says it also applies to many other colours.... reflex purple, cameleon green + blue, spectraflair silver!, and basically most of the flip, reflex, and cameleon colours!
If this is the case i think its absolutley pathetic!! any of these cars that now need paintwork are gonna be fecked! There must be a stockpile of these colours somewhere?? Or someone in this country who can mix these paints?? Can anybody help me at all as i dont want to HAVE TO respray my motor another colour as the interior would be fecked as well cos it matches!!
Any suggestions would be great as my garage or insurance co. do not know what to do now!?!
The joys of TVR ownership!! You gotta be kidding, if this is correct it will have massive affects on 2nd hand values of these colours.........HHHHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPP!!
Where can i get some bloody paint!!!! Apparently it has to be an ICI paint (no other makes)for it to match as well.

Well said Gerbil.

For clarity there will be problems with a number of TVR colours this year due to changes in legislation about paint types. This has nothing to do with TVR's collapse.

The best person IMHO to help with finding an alternative that matches is Gerbil.

Gerbil - any chance of a definitive list of the affected colours?

Sadly I have no idea what you are really on about but are you refering to the EEC solvernts act that came in at the beginning of this year.. I guess some of the TVR colours are not water based and as such are now prohibited.

so in an insurance claim the insurance company will have to cough up for a complete respray in a similar available colour. Could be nice for premiums.

Not necessarily, you just need a water-based equivalent.

ah ok cool, but would my reflex purple colour blend in with a water based match? Looks like I will just keep my front end stone chips as a sign of "driven not polished" for a bit longer

cheers, but will worry about it when and if I need it painted. Goes faster with the stone chips as it's lighter. Nice day for burning some TVR rubber in the south today...

Around 2 litres mate..

After speaking to gerbil for a long time last night he has assured me that these current problems will be solved for anybody concerned in the near future (things in the pipeline) He has also offered his services to myself re the discussions with my insurance man and will discuss the paint situation with him personally! (thanks again gerbil) Even though it is very fustrating for owners when something like this crops up... I cannot stress enough how much better i felt after speaking to gerbil last night, as he has put 20 years into tvr and still feels a responsibility towards current owners and is willing to help me through my current claim.
Lets hope these paints become readily available again soon and i know that gerbil is doing everthing possible to make this happen.

These guys where very helpful

info@autopaintsthelen@aol.com

www.auto-paint.co.uk

Unit 24 sutton oak drive.Baxters lane ind est
Merseyside WA9 3PH
Tel/Fax 01744 818102

They identified my colour from a mix of paintcode and descriptive name.

They told me not to use the ICI codes to order and just use the name.
So in my case TVR Halcyon Atlantis Pearl with a blue primer with the code u/c503.

I ordered my paint online on Saturday and received the paint in the mail Tuesday.
That's pretty good service in my book.

I know it's difficult to tell in the pot but the paint looks spot on.
40ml pots, primer, undercoat, paint and laquer. Total inc postage £17.39

I can mix most tvr colours including reflex colours but not chameleon colours although i do have a small amount of chameleon blue but not enough i am afraid, but if anyone requires touch up paint email me your code and i will see if i can mix your colour.
