………a Golf GTI driver flew up behind me this morning and (totally disrespectfully) about 2 yards from my bumper aggressively pulled out and tried to overtake. I was, therefore, duty bound once he was alongside me to apply slight pressure with right foot and leave him behind on the horizon. What was funny was that, from then on, he sat back at a distance as if to say `I’m not bothered anyway’. Trying to take on the Tiv boys eh?

If someone wants to overtake why not let them? Speeding up is just going to cause accidents.

but... if an accident is a random occurence, then by speeding up, hence spending a shorter amount of time in one place, the risk of an accident mustbe reduced!

Agreed, so he should have been going faster in the first place so the golf wouldn't have caught him

Speeding up just because someone is trying to pass is pathetic.

Driving along in my GTI roundabout this morning (the TVRs in the garage) and having a bit of a blast.

Came flying up behind a nice Chimera going pretty steady so thought I would overtake. OK, wrongly got a bit close before pulling out for the overtake, but I was trying to keep some speed up (the GTI aint that quick see).

Get alongside and the Tiv driver puts his foot down! I'm stuck on the wrong side of the road, wondering whether this bloke is gonna 'let' me get back in before a car comes... is he a nutter who is gonna brake when I do?

Luckily no, and I tuck back in behind him. Keep my distance though 'cos who knows what the arse might try next. Anyway I wouldn't have bothered trying the overtake initailly if he was going the speed he accelerated up to 'cos it's sometimes nice to drive in a quick 'convoy'.

Cheers, Phil

PS Yes, I made it up but you see my subtle point?

I had a white van doing this to me in the traffic last night.. flashing his headlights too... complete t0$$er.. there was loads of traffic about so I wasnt about to start tearing past everyone else to get away from the prat, so I just pulled over into a side road, and once he'd passed by, continued on my way.. ..moral

White van man will always be a

Rather than me acting like a prat in the eyes of the other road users around, I did the better thing..

Matt.

I'll admit to doing something similar.... I always stick to 20/30/40/50 limits, so when the national sign finally draws alongside with the car, I usually put my foot down (whether I be in Polo, Golf GTI (no it wasn't me) or Cerbera). Now if some tw*t has decided to overtake me before the limit has stopped (and is therefore speeding), I don't care where he is, I'm still going to accelerate out the limit. If he is slower than me, then he'll have to pull back in behind me.....

Sorry, but speeding in 20/30/40 is one of my pet hates...

I bleievt this is the key bit. If the GTI driver had driven with an ounce of courtesy, then he'd not have met such stiff opposition. If you drive like an arse, expect to get treated as such.

What really irritates me when you're in lane 3 on the motorway, leaving a safe distance from the car in front and waiting for the preceeding traffic to clear so that you can resume your cruising speed, and you get some to$$ers racing up to your back bumper and trying to intimidate you out of the way.

I find a certain amount of satisfaction from waiting until the lane's clear and then putting my foot down, before pulling into a sensible clearing in lane 2 and letting the to$$er past. It always makes me smile watching them desperately trying to catch up after being so aggressive and pushy.

By the time they overtake me I'm quite happily cruising in lanes 1 or 2 with a serence smile on my face.

Yup, annoying isn't it? A few months back when a Rover was following about 2 yards behind me, there wasn't any easy way to let him past but I managed to find a gap *just* big enough to pull into without cutting anyone up to get him out of my way, he put his foot down to go past and promptly blew his engine, Very satisfying!
