Was passing through the Luton area the other day, they have lorry loads of the ones that face you. They seem to have two lenses on them, red and something else. I suspect they are just as good at taking your money.
Just for the record, not that anyone cares but the enjoyment of my lifetime hobby (cars) has been seriously affected by these f
g cameras. I hope the B
d who invented them is either dead or soon to be. There, feel better already.

Tried to ask this same question in speeding & plod a couple of weeks ago, but everyone ignored me :-(
Looks like the police also ignored me, though :-)
From what I collected on my travels around the web:
1) GATSO cameras can measure speed in both directions
2) Guidelines say to take care that they do not accidentally go off when passed in the "wrong" direction... of course if it's deliberate that's another thing
3) Some cameras only take one photo to record who you are, some take 2 to confirm your speed. No idea which are which.
4) If they follow up on you, and the camera wasn't "highlighted" and signed as you approached it then I think this would disqualify them for the netting-off system (I think, probably, possibly, perhaps...)
5) There's some debate about whether a GATSO that flashes oncoming traffic constitutes an unnecessary road hazard, and could be legally problematic for the person organisation that installed it. There was one case of someone mowing down the pillar because they were shocked by the flash, and getting compensation (allegedly).
6) The forward-facing cameras with the red "eye" are infra-red based, to fix problem (5).
7) Everyone has an opinion, and most of them are probably wrong.

If it was a standard Gatso, grey 'head' box wider than it was tall and you saw a bright white flash then you are in the clear.
If however it was a Truvelo, which are generally blue with a head thats taller than it is wide, has a IR type cover on it and didnt flash then you're nicked.
Matt.

Are the Truvelos marked with yellow and do the depend on the painted marks that we have all learnt to see from a quarter mile off?
