Hi, I`ve had my TVR chimaera for nearly a year now, I had it serviced at castle TVR last year and to be honest wasn`t happy with the service.

Just wondering what everyone else does about servicing. I`m in essex and need a 24,000 mile service done, but I want it done properly to keep my car in best condition.

Are Main dealers best or just wallet emptiers?

Any help appreciated.

Personally (ive only recently got my car)i would go indi and save some money,by indi i mean known tvr garage.Having seen some of the previous bills for my car (main dealers)

Having said that some main dealers are quite competitive

Which ever way you go make sure you are happy with the quality of work

I drive from Chelmsford to Dave Batty in Guildford. Your other option is Offord near Cambridge.

No "Name & Shame" on these forums I know, but I won't be returning to Kerridges.

Looking for a tame Inde myself around Chelmsford/Witham/Maldon. I know a good place for wheel alignment, brakes and suspenders but they are not TVR specialists. May try Phil Wood next time.

Phil Woods has just done a full service on mine & lots of other bits & pieces - it cost a lot but I had asked him to do a lot and now the car is great & drives like a dream - He knows his stuff that's for sure!

An increasing number of Suffolk/Norfolk TVRCC members use Scole Engineering at Diss (Suffolk/Norfolk border). Costs are resonable, they actually care, and they love TVR's. I can't fault them (yet!).

They can be contacted on 01379 740940.

Thanks for you advise on servicing. I decided to take it to peninsula in devon, having found that they have recently become a main dealer and being quite a bit cheaper than any main dealer in the essex area. I had one of their weekend service breaks. 2 nights stay b&b and a major service came to £600. not bad especailly as they let me have a tuscan for about 5 hours and a tamora for a few the next day too. The car came back great runs and drives great very pleased with them. so if you fancy a weekend away while they service your car maybe try them!

I've used them too & had good results .
I used the collection service as it only adds 50 quid or so to the price & saved me the hassle of driving down (did drive back the first time & had a luverly sunny run home - but 4 hours train ride to get there put me off the idea of doing it again!).
An added bonus is that they've become a main dealer since, so my service history has returned to being "full TVR dealer etc". Bit of artistic licence but there you go!

What a bloody great idea! If you have a dealership a bit out on a limd, give the punters another reason to visit you - top marketing guys, just wish I was close enough to take advantage.

On the main theme - silly as it seems, a buyer will always, always be more swayed with a main dealer service history - it says that you're prepared to spend that little bit more, so you probably won't have scrimped in other areas (hey, I never said it made sense did I?)

Depends how much they know their TVRs. A good independent is better than a poor main dealer, IMHO. Plus over a few years you will save far more than any slight drop in 'perceived' value at selling time.
