Have now sold the Chimp after an unforgettable 18 months. Being without a garage and having to travel a lot at the moment I think it was for the best. I have found myself loitering on Caterham sites recently and see from Evo mag that they are bringing out a larger 7 at some point. Very tempting, will definatley need a garage for that I suppose. Any of you TVR heads got any Cat experiences? I have always wanted a bike but frankly don't have the necessary bottle, perhaps a Caterham could be the answer. I understand that a suitably pokey Caterham will even take out bikes when it comes to cornering. Man, they must be fast!!!!!!

Hi cajun, pleased you enjoyed your Chim experience.

Keep in touch.

You may get more replies in the TVR general gossip, I'll move it over.

No experience of Caterhams other than years of dealing with head gasket problems on the K-Series engine. Which brings me on to my point...

An alternative may be a suitably uprated Elise (i.e. one of the Turbo-Technics or S2000 engined ones) or an Exige. You can leave one of those out ungaraged - I did for 18 months, and even now I've got the Cerb I really miss it & the way it could be driven.

Just a thought...

Cajun - Had my a Caterham for just under 4 years now, done over 40k miles and had very little problem with it. Been running it as my only car (yes, it is possible). It's a standard 1.6 K Series, so not quite up to out dragging bikes but can more than hold its own on twisties. Currently looking at adding a Chimaera to my "collection". Never regretted the decision to buy the 7 and always end up with a after a drive. Happy to chat about it if you want.
Ewen.

Edited to add - Mine lives outside, with no garage and has survived well

JSG - good thought I will consider it. Funny, when I was driving tvr I felt almost sorry for the poor sods stuck in lotuses, beginning to see things from a different perspective though. I have never been in one but I can imagine that seat of the pants sewn to the road feeling must be so good. Nothing beats the cerbie for satanic cool though...

Ewen, Well I must say I'm suprised (and delighted) you run a Caterham as an only car. What's it like on the weekly shopping run??

I know what you mean - once I clambered out of the Elise & slid comfortably into the Cerby, I thought I'd never look back, but you kind of got used to the lack of comfort, etc. and now I fancy one again. Couldn't get rid of the TVR, though. Unless...

I've been wondering about the idea of getting rid of the boot on an Elise, as the passenger's seat was plenty of space for shopping anyway. Which *should* make enough room for an S6 engine & all the associated plumbing. Technically, I have no real doubts that it's possible, I am a bit worried about having any extra weight behind the rear wheels to mess up the poise of the car, though.
