My cerb feels like the front disks are not quite right. Do people get their disks skimmed? And if so what sort of companies do this? I am in Surrey.

Cheers,
Mark

Assume they are warped...are you getting a pulse back through the pedal? or, just need cleaning up

Skimming is fine provided they are not too warped and there is enough material left - any decent garage should be able to do this.

They're not terribly expensive these days though... I'd probably replace them if I had any concerns. Peace of mind and all that.

Yeah there is a very slight pulsing under light braking.

I think the big AP disks are not that cheap.

A decent machine shop should do them for about £25 each.

Clean them up with some abrasives before you abandon hope, most likely issue is you have some pad deposits on the disc face.

Never used them but these guys skim the disc on the car - which seems a good idea to me

I measured mine with a dial gauge, and there 0.05mm out is this within tollerance, I only need to get juggering under heaving high speed breaking, rest of the time it's fine.

Just to drag this topic up again...

As my car is off the road at the moment it would be easier if I could find somewhere that can skim disks with the disk off the car. Does anyone know of anywhere in the Surrey area that can do this?

Cheers,
Mark

When i went to a main dealer (if you can call one that now days) i was told the metal had a memory and that skimming was a waste of time, so i had to pay 300 for a new pair of discs...........

My Chimaera rear discs were warped (I think I may have left the hand brake on and driven quite some distance)...

Anyway I had mine skimmed when it went to TVR Power for a service (although Dom said they were grinded not skimmed) he also said the metal has memory and they will eventually warp again, but it would be fine for months to come, cost about £30+VAT per disc

They seem fine to me and I had a LOT of wobble comming back through the steering, in fact you see the wing mirrors shaking and feel it through the breake pedal, it wa spretty bad, but now its totally fine.....

Not sure who Dom used, but it was a 3rd party....

hmmm....

Skimming must work to a certain extent, I would certainly try it before shelling out however much on a new pair of disks.

As far as other parts like bushes, ball joints etc. They are all new but it might be worth checking to see if maybe they have worked slightly loose.

Edited to add:

Cheers for that Pepsi I will give dom a ring. My local garage quoted over a hundred quid to do it.

Where your disks on the car when it was done?

Sure when I was at Austec Racing a while back there was a Chimaera on one of the ramps having what looked to me like rear discs being skimmed on the car
