After much investigation, it appears that my Speed 6 Cerb needs a de-throttle chip (replacement ECU), due to "rev-limiter" like symptoms at high revs. This is now seriously annoying me, particularly as I aspire to take part in some Bruntingthorpe Vmax action.

My dealer wasn't initially aware of the "de-throttle" chip, but after bringing this thread www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=6706&f=5&h=0 (scroll down halfway and read the posting by fish) to his attention, he has now asked the TVR service department at the factory for some help. They've heard of the replacement ECU, but don't know the part number to ask the factory for it (slightly bizarre I know).

So, my question is - do any of you SP6 owners (Tuscan, T350 etc.), who perhaps have gone through the replacement process, know the part number, or know anyone who does?

Tell them to speak to Paul Forrest at the factory. I’m currently waiting for a new chip for mine to cure the same problem you have. I don’t know if they have a specific part number. I think (may be wrong about this) they are going to try fitting a chip from a T350 engine to mine as apparently the T350 chips are different for some reason – maybe a newer design(?). I am assured it will have no affect on performance but should cure the occasional stuttering at high RPM.

Bu66er! I've just read the other post and discovered I've got that hesitation fault. I thought it was just crappy petrol! I'll be speaking to the factory on Monday!

Their isn't a part number they are burnt by engine development and it is only a chip that needs changing, takes 5 mins.....

Paul Forrest knows about it in service

Just to give you an update.

Spoke to Heath Brigs in service (as Paul Forrest is away). He recognised the issue and told me to put my dealership in contact with Paul Giddings in engine build.

Hopefully a replacement chip will be arriving with Castle tomorrow. It will be to the latest SP6 Cerb specification, so it'll be interesting to see what differences I notice. I'm confident that it will fix the problem - but fingers crossed!

To finish this thread off - got the replacement chip put in yesterday. I'm pleased to say the hi-rev stuttering has gone.

Castle have been very good as always. Thanks Rob!

How was your engine running at other revs? Fine, or sligthly stuttery then too?
