Devon and Cornwall Wiscombe Hill Climb

What a superb day (apart from the sun burn) at a fabulous venue! It was very well organised and great fun. Grass roots motoring events are where its at!
Took some pics and small movies on the digital camera and will post a link to them asap.
Seeing a white wedge going through the forest section sideways was worth the entry fee alone. There was also a particularly brave pilot in a 3000M turbo who was giving it hell. Vixens sounded and looked superb as did the V8s and Griff.
Only disapointment was lack of TVRs in convoy, where were you all?
Big hello to Pete, Amy, Garry, Lawrence (and was it Sam?). Great day out in great company!

Hi Jamie
'twas indeed a great day. I too was suffering the effects of the sun afterwards!
I was pleased and a little surprised that the Mrs said she also thoroughly enjoyed the day. Next thing you know she'll be wanting to drive the Tiv!
Enjoyed seeing the TVR's in action, especially for me the V8S's. Speaking to Steve Cox with the Griff engine in his has given me ideas (not really).
Catch up with you at another event soon, or perhaps and evening run with the others again sometime.
Pete

Sorry we missed you, we left the services at about 10:10 in two griffs and a V8S. Later on a chim and red griff parked right in front of us at Wiscombe with an S just down the line, dint meet any of the owners though.

The Ashley bodied special was upmarket compared to mine, I followed the then original Lotus 7 spec.
Aluminium body panels over a tubular spaceframe, Austin 7 chassis with Bellamy and Bowden fittings. The engine was a tuned and balanced 1172 Ford with Aquaplane head and twin SU carbs and finally the 4 branch (banana) exhaust.
The car was timed at 105mph on the 1/2 mile Buckfasleigh straight (before 70mph came in), you paid £5 and "that nice man" timed you in both directions (had to be at 6am)-this was in those days a pretty good time for a hand built car, open cockpit and no safety belts, and the straight then had trees down the centre of the road!
The closest in similar cars was my Dellow that I only recently sold after many years to buy the Tiv.

Excellent day! Only downside was I couldn't convince my better half that I'd said "I'll be home for tea" and not "I'll be home at 3". Anyway, I've always enjoyed a good beating from my wife... (sorry going O/T)
Look forward to meeting up again - this weather can't last (can it?) but an evening jaunt must be on the cards soon.

John, I love classics. Any chance you might have any pictures on your PC of you driving them in full flight? I think I know the stretch of road you are talking about. I can just imagine you now, blasting down that straight at 6 in the morning!
Must have been fantastic to be able to drive on our roads before all the traffic and regulations.
Garry, I didnt think for one second that your ploy would actually work....
