Got a bloody great nail sticking out of one of my rear tyres. I know SOs are in short supply but anyone know where I can find one? 245/45/16.
If I can't find one I'll have to get a pair of different ones. Don't want SO3s, so apart from the Toyos what else do we all suggest. I'd quite like a set of Yoki's but I think they may be a tad expensive

Thanks John, which HHC? the code looks like Harrogate but I know you have strong ties to Hexham.
Peter - from opinions gained here and from various tyre suppliers, the SO3s are "generally" regarded to be not a patch on the SO2s. I seem to recall they have actually stopped making them too.

I got the opposite opinions on S03a to you then!
Scan the threads and more people rate them then grate them.
Also our resident Griff long termers both use them.
Edited to add: I reckon all the people that grate tehm have been running them at the wrong pressures and havent cured them using the heat cycle method as mentioned in the bible.

Who do you mean by resident long termers? I'm open to enlightenment. Like I said, it's not my opinion, just those that I have gathered from others in the biz.

Edited: On that thread you'll find Beano500 and Johno were the first to comment. They have both done poo loads of miles in their Griffs and in the past have given lots of good info on here.
Mr Heath also recommends them as did sxs who also tracks his Cerbie and still gets 8000 miles on a set of S03s.
It was these comments as well as many others and what I heard from people at meets and read up on else where that persuaded me to get the S03s.
I heard good and bad about both the S03s and Toyos and wieghed up the differences. The S03s were a little bit dearer but I still thought they came out tops.
In the end it probably comes down to personal preference and money which can be seen by the many comments about the Toyo/S03 debate on PH.

mytyres.co.uk are still listing them at £118.. (and Expedia S0-1's too !)
Last time I bought some I only paid £80odd + vat from a local garage near me mind you.. that was from Ledbury Tyres and Exhausts (01531) 633984.. they may still be able to get hold of some.

Al,SO3s are a great tyre
but they don't last 4,000 miles on the SEAC,thats not spinning the wheels.
You can get Toyos for about £90 , think the Yokis are around £200

I'm going to take the wheel off and see if I can get the hole... (if in fact there is one, I may be lucky, as the nail is in at a very shallow angle in the side of one of the tread ridges)... repaired - it's nowhere near the side wall.
If not I'll check into the SO3s a bit further, not keen on the Toyos, they just don't have a very attractive profile (though who am I to talk

Bang on SO3's on the rear and a set of Goodyear Eagles on the front, brilliant combination for shear grip on standard wheels.
SO2's on the front mixed with SO3's on the rear also is a good combination, but the Eagles are amazing in steering response.
Toyo's are good performers but really dont touch the Eagles and Bridgestones for on the edge heated performance" and

Wasn't too complimentary of the earlier GSD1 and GSD2. Anybody have any experience of the GSD3 tyres yet?

I would try and get hold of SO2's had them on my first Griff, second Tusc and now my Cerbie and I think that there's not much to beat them...
If you cxan't get hold of them I had Goodyear Eagle F1's on my second Griff and found them excellent...
Having said that and just to chuck in another alternative I had P Zeros on my first Tuscan and they were lovely...

I adore GSD3s, had a couple fo sets of them on my other cars but couldn't get them for the 500.
So, opted for Toyo Proxies and I'm very pleased, far better feedback and comfort than the Bridgestones that they replaced. having said that they are damb ugly, as tyres go they look shite, from an aesthetic pov, but at the eng of the day they proove themselves in wet and dry conditions then i'll have another set, ask me again in 6-7000 miles.
If you can get the GSD3s do, but I was told there was a waitiglist for stock from Germany.
Oh, one final point, the Toyos are cheaper too.

Rumour has it that the first thing that the Japenese TVR dealers used to do was replace the Toyos with D3s. The SO3PP has never rated above the D3 in a tyre test to my knowledge. By all accounts the Bridgestone is a very good tyre but overall it does not appear to be the market leader at present.

Thats what I am running on at the moment, changed the fronts about 500 miles ok. Seem ok to me at the moment but has been mostly dry driving Hard. Wet i drive like an old women so wouldnt be able to tell much difference.

Must say... when I got my last pair of SO2s, a totally independent tyre specialist, and i mean, really knows his cars kind of specialist, recommended in order - SO2s, closely followed by Goodyear F1s.

you mean to say you caused all this trouble and now you arent even gonna buy any?!
If you ever do get the Goodyears I have heard to make sure you get the GFDS3 rather than the GFDS2.
Better compound on the 3 apparently.
(Not sure about those codes but the "2" and "3" bit is correct!).

It´s difficult to get the GSD2s now, not that you´d want to. The GSD3s replaced them a while ago.
