Chevy alumimium 5.7 LS1 into TVR.
Discussion
Does anybody fancy it and will it fit? I can supply the parts and the engines about the same size as the Rover V8 (smaller in many respects) but with a lot more oomph! You can fit the t56 6 speed or for a more mundane 350 bhp LS1 you could get away with a T5. Let me know what you think as I need feedback please. Mike.
I certainly fancy it, and Rover V8s have been fitted into M-series chassis so someone should be able to shoehorn the LS1 into one.
Not sure if I'm going to fancy the price of the engine plus other bits to make it work, like custom manifolds, etc., plus all the unforeseen problems you encounter with such a project.
If my planned engine-swap doesn't work out, I'll be in touch.

Hello Graham, I don't know much about the T5 so I can't really say what the differences are. The T56 is bigger and it weighs appx 8.5 stone so it's heavier. I have a t56 and Chevy LS1 engine bolted in my TR7 v8 in place of my 5.0 Rover turbo and there is plenty of space. In fact there is more space. I think you will find the T56 is probably 'fatter' but probably not much bigger. The LS1 and T56 combo is 3" shorter then my Rover combo. The box is certainly stronger and more long legged. there is a picture of one on my page but no picture of a T5. I can email you a picture if that would help and somewhere I have a link which gives out measurements.
Graham, PaulU came up today with a red Chimera and jacked it up so we could both take a look underneath. He reckons a T56 will fit no problem and I have to agree with him. We also had a 6 speed gearbox nearby that we could look at. There is the issue of the bell housing to resolve but it looks like the space in the chassis is there. This also means that a certain larger aluminium american v8 would fit also. Mike.
mmm some pictures of the box and the engine would be good, together with dimensions. was thinking of the supercharged route on the rover lump but this is also quite interesting and a little different.
how much does the ls1 weigh?
i would probably use an injection system as i have the emerald prgramable ecu so i could just hook it up to that...

Graham, if you email me or look at my site you will find some information otherwise I can mail you some pics. I am really looking for a doner car to convert over the winter. This engine does have a lot going for it. Weighs about 400 lbs. I would recommend the stock ecu as it to is very sophisticated but you could use an emerald if you just bought an engine without an ecu. Mike.
I went to Joospeed and spoke with Julian (helpful chap). He showed me a Griff on the ramps and this project is, as far as I can tell quite viable. I can fit the LS1 onto the existing T5 of that I am as certain as I can be short of actually doing it. I reckon with a little more work I could also fit the T56 as well.
