Help, I have noticed a juddering from the rear of the car when I accelerate hard in 1st & 2nd gear, towards the top end of the power band.
Its a 96 Griff 500, I have checked various threads on here but haven't found an answer to my problem.
Feelings are it could be diff mounting bolts, driveshaft bolts or even UJ's, any ideas on what it may be & cost implications?

Cheers

Nick

Could be driver abuse and the car is complaining and you are getting axle tramp or problems caused by poor traction as the diff is squirming. Could also be totally knackered diff.

Nick - I think you will find it's the rev limiter
- it's fitted on the passenger seat...!!

Her foot is probably repeatedly hitting the
battery box in the vain hope of it being a
brake pedal

Could be driveshaft splines on way out - new drive shafts or strip repack for a 10K mile fix.

Cheers guys, I spoke to a very nice man at Austec Racing in Gatwick & have booked it in for tomorrow.
See Ted, people do read the ads etc on these pages!

Steve..driver abuse, me, surely not, Im a gentleman at the wheel.

Rev, (Alan) I did have a problem with a strange screaming from the passanger seat area when I first had the car, but this seems to have relented now, more of a contented purr!!

Heres hoping its not a major problem.

Absolutely nothing. Must be something to do with spending the weekend in Cornwall with all those pasties.

NB Tony busy at moment but hasn't forgotten factory visit. Maybe sort out a date at next club meet?

This may be a bit late but I had some juddering/knocking noises from the diff in 1st and reverse. Inital thoughts were that the diff mountings were at fault but as this kept on for a few months I decided to get my friendly local mechanic to look at it. It turned out to be the "planet plates" inside the diff. These are what manages the slip - if I remember correctly - and they had drifted too far apart and were knocking at low speed/revs. Was not too expensive as the diff was OK just an adjustment required - the diff does need to be removed and opened up though.

Good luck.

Thanks again all, took the car to Austec today & found the bolts holding the diff had snapped (dont ask me, thats as technical as I get!)
Have to say they have a very nice setup there, & are very friendly, got carried away so its having a service (including a rolling road session), wheel alignment & a few other bits done as well. Should be like a new car when I get it back...cant wait, best get the wife back out to work though!!
