Electric window help needed.......
Discussion
I have a problem.....
My electric window has been playing up recently until last weekend it stopped...I've stripped the whole mechanism out to find that the motor and gearbox is fine but the lifting mechanism is shagged.....
I need to find another mechanism from somewhere...
I've tried the factory, the mechanism is not sold seperately, you have to buy the motor as well...£120 all in.
This is not a massive expense I know....But having contacted Racing Green and the TVR Factory. They do not have any D/Side units in stock and cannot give a timescale as to when they will.....
The location and centrality of the drive gear (shown)seems to be the problem.
I haven't taken the (sealed) unit apart to inspect the gear but it appears that teeth are either pretty worn or stripped. This causes intermittant or no engagement to the helix/screw drive.
If I strip the drive apart there may be a possibility I can get another gear made...(costly)
What I'm really after is someone who has one of these assemblies in their garage...After buying the whole lot but changing the motor only perhaps...!!
The unit is off my S3 but I have been informed by TVR that it is the same as that used on the Griffith...
Fingers crossed...
Dave

Unless the drive gear is made of plastic, you might find that the screw itself has a 'flat spot' at some point in its travel.
I had this problem on an old Rover 800. Basically the limit switch or whatever was supposed to be telling the motor that the window was fully down wasn't working, so the motor kept on running for a while at the bottom of the window's travel. Result was that the gear jumped the "teeth" on the screw and wore down a flat spot. Eventually there wasn't enough material left to catch on the gear in order to raise the window.
As the car was basically a heap of junk anyway, I just craftily positioned a block to prevent the window dropping right down and getting caught in the dead zone. Wouldn't necessarily suggest this solution for your TVR, though!

I had a problem with my windows (in my giff) a while ago and did some investigation/ringing around.
I can not remeber exactly (long time ago now) but I thought that these winders were the rear window winders from a 800 series rover. If you can confirm this (and I am realy not sure), you may find one at your local breakers for next to nothing.
On the other hand I may be making this all up
Hope this is of some help

Thanks for all your help Steve...
I fitted the new mechanism on Saturday, But still have a problem with the eletric supply, there must be a dodgy earth as you suggested.
I slaved power straight from the battery to get the motor, the mechanism and my alignment of the runners were spot on....
Any idea where the earth for the motor would be..?
I don't really want to start poking around too much..
Thanks again
