Lowering and Alloys

Hi

I have a mk4 TDI Match, I recently read a review on t'internet and this guy said the handling was cr4p so he decided to lower the car. I think my handlings is pretty poor to so I'm looking at going down the same road.

I'd like to do the same but I have a few queries..namely

1) Am I restricted to the size of alloy when I lower the car?

2) I only want to lower it the same as the GTI ?

3) If I lower it this much can I still have a trailer on the back ?

4) Whats the best approach to lowering the car, do I need shocks and springs ? do they come in kits yada yada.... ??

I know itsa bit exhaustive but any snippets of wisdom would be great.
