Brakes for fat lardy car

Right then, having had a rather scary brake fade moment, i'm on the lookout for a better setup.
The car is a 1992 Audi 100 (a6) 2.8 quattro.
It's currently just got plain disks, so i assume some sort of fancy grooved affair would be a good thing, and pads to match. Any reccommendations that don't cost as much as the car did?
