Saw on detailling world this write up from Kelly at KDS - thought it one of the more unusual cars to have detailed (especially the stuff in the back!) and so wanted to share! I'm having my red S4 Avant detailed by Kelly in a few weeks - my god am I excited!

Oh, the guy showing Dom how to machine polish properly is me ( hehe )....ok ok , first time I'd ever touched a machine polisher smile

Hi Guys

The car in this write up had been on the cards for sometime after detailing another of the customers cars before hand .

The booking of this large black (2003) car got Dom interested , So a month or two later and to and throw of emails and phone calls the car was delivered a few days before the arrival of Dom .

The idea of Dom visiting the workshop was mainly to meet each other , meet my staff, test some products ,swap new ideas and of course go out for a meal smile

The car came to me 3 days before the dodo juice visit which gave me enough time to wash and prep the entire car ready for the stages of machine correction and complete a couple of passes of correction .

As things sometimes pan out the weekend the car was with me i had my most manic saturday i have ever had , opened at 8.30 am ended up shuting 7.30 pm and in that time all i had done was meet and inspect over a dozen new customers cars , even the sunday 2 customers came to the workshop , so the pressure was on to get the machine correction near the end stage or at least close to it before Dom turned up .
The idea was help on last stage refining then test some of the Dodo products.

Of course when under massive pressure things are never straight forward, the paint on this car had paint depths from 90 upto 600 microns , had extremely bad deep damage , solid colour paint (apart from tail gate which was clear coated confused) , and lastly the paint was tough but also marked very easy :wall:

And as you will later was on the large side too:doublesho .

Dom was due to come to the workshop around midday to miss the M25 rush hour , as it was he got there first thing in the morning , And oh boy i was so glad he did . #

Firstly a massive thank you to Dom for Just getting stuck in without any complants or requirments once he realised i was way behind and it was not going to be straight forward or to plan at all .

here is what we had installed :doublesho

only had three days total machine correction , which would leave one day for lsp interior glass etc , and videos and photos .

here are some more befores

Now only got a few during shots as time went by its was important just to get the job done and not to worry about pics , i did manage to record on HD before and after of the paintwork which once i have gone through will add to the thread :thumb:

During and this will give away the size of the vehicle .

Here is the wood interior before

Found the interior wood was best with a single stage machine correction and lsp

50/50

lsp

Now again massive thank you to dom for putting in 2 long hard days of machine correction and without him would not of got the detail done in time :thumb:

Dom in action

On the first day dom, myself , tracy and 2 pistonhead members went out for a meal , Dom at the end of the meal offered to pay for tracy's meal as it was her birthday and this is after putting in a long hard days work in for free :thumb:.

Could you meet a better person , i guess not .

early start the next day to try and get the bulk of the correction done leaving enough time to experiment with some Lsp's .

One of the pistonhead members popped in to see dom in action and ended up giving a quick lesson on machine correction

Before i post any more photos , i must say while talking to Dom about the whole detailing process and products is the reason why dom puts himself in these sitiuations is to help him learn about different paint , different tech's and keep him in front of other detailing products suppliers , this is why you can clearly see his products work so well .

glass being clean and there was a lot of it

Here are some during shots after 3M FCP and Extra fine yellow ,

To get the car finished on time and ready for Dom to Apply some wax , we ended up with me , dom and greg all machine correcting .

Dom made a special point of while applying Super Natural and Blue velvet pro to use bare hands and aplicator to test different methods .

Super natural with applicator

Blue velvet bare hands

here are the after shots , at 1 in the morning dom left around 10.30 pm

Reflection shot in the petrolflap

To prove it next shots are zoomed out

reflection in the glass

All finished with 2 coats of super natural :thumb:

and lastly while dom was with us he had his wheels refurbished with lepsons (next door) on his new car
some before and after

new dodo paste sealent

One of my staff got a long term customers car ready for 2 coats of dodo juice paste sealent as we see this car every 3 months for top up so gives us a good test base to test dom's new sealent

Here are the videos of the paint work in HD if you select so :thumb:

Stunning! You can't beat black once it's been polished!

I wouldn't want to be left alone with that car though... I'd be a bit spooked!

I can't wait for the weather to pick up so I can get back to keeping my fleet clean! hehe

would prefer if they tested new products on their own cars rather than customers though...

'twas with the owners permission (kelly did say in his write up) and, it's worth remembering, the products that get as far as a car are a long way down the testing line; it's not the first time it's ever got near some paint smile

As tony said the waxes that were apllied to heasre have been out for years now and it was the owner of the car who asked to have dodo juice supernatural wax on the car after machine correction . so nothing new there wink

The owner of hearse is a dodo juice convert and i wax his other cars with supernatural .

It was more for Dom to see how the products felt on different types of paint in different conditons , which i think is a great thing for a company owner keeping hands on with testing all of his products .

The wheels are Dom's own wheels straight after refurb with sealent apllied , and lastly the masser which i see every 3 months for wash and top up (the owner does nothing but drive it) is the perfect car for me to see the sealents durability as only i ever go near the car's paint surface .

The owner of the masser puts total faith in me when it comes to his car , like i do with a company like dodo juice , the sealent will have absolutley no negative effect to the paint so no risk to the car or customer .

Kelly

edit to say the owner of heasre was fully aware of Dom's presence before hand and even showed the photos of what went on during the time the heasre was with me on collection .
had a call back yesterday saying how blown away he is and how easy it is to wash . biggrin

yet again if you dont write it down properly and explain it comes back to bite you smash

Right the owner of Heasre/company washes his own supercar etc and does an extremely good job of it , of course he does not wash the hearse (his driver does that) , this is the reason i spent 2+ hours with the driver and owner going through the correct wash tech and products to keep it looking its best on collection as well as having some more cleaning equipment from me .

so the first wash the hearse has had away form me was done by the onwer and driver so that the owner can make sure all is correct , which is why the phone call back to say how nice and easy it is to keep clean from the owner thumbup

Hopefully alot less swirls from now on , remember thou its a 2003 car which is being washed all the time in readiness for work .

starting with 1200grit,then 2000 then 4000 then move to the machine to finish with 3 grades of compound before two stages by hand, gets a nice finish.

did the supercharged cerbera that was at the Autosport / pistonheads show N.E.C the same way.

I take it you are joking and there's a smiley accidentally missing off there somewhere wink

We never test any products on customers cars without permission and with there being any danger to the car in any way, shape or form. It is misguided for you to even suggest that this would be the case, or that Kelly would allow it. Products are only applied to 'live' vehicles after they have been thoroughly tested beforehand in the lab and on test panels etc. It also helps if you know a lot about the product (inc solvents etc) and the surface/finish it is being applied to (which we do).

Hello everyone, just to let you know I am the owner of the hearse that Kelly and Dom detailed for me, and I'm completely new to these forums, let alone posting a reply on them, so please bear with me!!
I've got to know Kelly, Tracey, and all his staff at Kds as they look after my personal car for me, and it was on one of those visits that the idea came up to test some new products on one of my hearses. Now I want to make it very clear at this point that everything was fully explained to me about the new products and techniques that were going to be used and I had no hesitation in booking one of my hearses in to be detailed.
My funeral vehicles are my shop window, in a manner of speaking, and I have very high standards, just ask anyone who works for me.... on delivering the hearse to Kelly it looked very clean under normal lighting, but when Kelly showed me the photographs after it had been washed and dried, I felt very ashamed and embarassed at the state of the paint, but in my defence this vehicle has never been machine polished in it's life, and is always cleaned before it goes out on a funeral, ie. hand washed and then polished with ntx wax, sometimes twice a day, regardless of whether its raining, snowing, or hot and sunny.
At ever single stage of the detail, I was informed of what was going on, and the problems that both Kelly and Dom were encountering, and beleive me there were many.
Come the day of collection I was really looking forward to seeing the end result, but nothing could prepare me for what I was about to see, both myself and my driver Ian were stunned and speechless, after 20 minutes just looking at the car Ian turned to me and said, "That is total perfection, I'm scared to drive it, let alone clean it, it should be in a glass cabinet!" How right he was..
For the next 2 hours Kelly went through the whole process of how to wash the car properly, and keep it maintained.
Now the interesting bit, it's first clean with the new washing process, I could not beleive how easy it was to clean, the protection and beading qualities of Dodo Juices Supernatural wax is phenomenal. Now before anyone say's anything Dodo Juice is my personal favourite product, and that is what I wanted used on the hearse, the reason being, their products are just so easy to use and give amazing results, and before you ask, "yes" I've tried many other waxes from other manufacturers, but as they say "one person's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist")
Finally, I would like to thank Dom from Dodo Juice, and secondly, Kelly and his team. Kelly is a very rare find in today's world, he is a total perfectionist, totally committed, a true professional and most importantly will always give the job he is doing 100%, if you don't believe me, go and see him. I promise you won't be disappointed, whether you drive a Mini or a Bugatti Veron!

Hi C2FUG welcome to PH's

Hopefully you took my comment about the broom as a tongue in cheek comment as intended.thumbup

Shocking what those lights show up isn't it.....I'm scared to let the Westfield get within a 100metres of one as i can see the same effect in good lighting already hehe

Glad you are happy with the transformation, knowing Kelly and his team it's probably better than when it first came out of the factory....enjoy. biggrin
