Went yesterday to see this. Absolutely stunning, but strictly a one-off I was told. Shame. Perhaps a sustained campaign would change their mind

Was quite interested to hear that they dropped a GM 3-litre in there. That didn't strike me as something that could be done overnight or particularly easily without all sorts of modifications that would need proper testing and development. I wonder if this powertrain is being/has been evaluated already for future models, like a hotter Exige variant or the rumoured Elise-chassied GT car?

I think you will find that there will be 10 built as road cars...(no prizes for guessing why)

also, it's not what it appears to be.....

The chap on the stand I spoke to IIRC referred to the chassis being stretched, and the bodywork scaled up in all dimensions before restyling as necessary. It was the first part that drew my attention, and made me think of the proposed GT.

Longer wheelbase and V6 engine were certainly mooted at one point as being the basis for the GT, the former backed up by photos of the yellow development hack that made the Autocar cover, and the black development car that was snapped on the road somewhere.

"This one-off racecar has been built for a South East Asian client and is expected to race in selected sportscar races in Asia. There are no plans as yet to build further examples of the Lotus Sport Exige but the base structure has been carefully designed to comply with key motorsport regulations around the world. Adhering to the key Lotus philosophy of performance through lightweight, the Lotus Sport Exige weighs in at just 850kg."

It's a damn shame . . .
