Another Triumph for Club Lotus! The day was a complete sucsess with many freinds met, old and new. I arrived on the saturday afternoon, parked my newly washed Elite in the cow shed and had a quick mooch around.
There were all the usual suspects, Paul Matty, South west Lotus Centre, QED etc, and a few of the larger auto jumblers were also setting up their stalls. As I was leaving, I bumped into Micheal Marsh, the registrar of the Elite/Elcat register in his immaculate S2 Elite.
The following morning, I arrived at 08.30 and set to polishing the now dry Elite. The hall (Cow Shed) began to fill with all manner of exotica, a beautiful custard yellow Elise parked next to me, and two almost identical red S3 Esprits next to that. Clanger turned up in his M100 Elan (Nice Bloke), and there was also a pair of supercharged Elise's. Outside, a whole bunch of Elite's and Eclat's had gathered. The best of the bunch were, Micheal Marsh's S2 and an odd Greenish coloured S2 which were both quite beautiful. Of the cars for sale, My Elite stood out from the crowd,(Iwould say that wouldn't I ) this was bourne out by the fact that at the end of the show it was sold.
This rather took me by suprise, as although I had offered it for sale, I had not actually intended to let it go. The new owner did not feel confident enough to drive the car home, so I offered to deliver it for him, so I ended up driving to Milton Keynes. Getting home had never crossed my mind, so the new owner gave me a lift back to Coventry from where I caught the train to Bristol, via Birmingham. Standing around on cold, dark railway stations, with large sums of cash in your pockets is quite frightening, but the ticket was only £23.50 which was only £3.50 more than the Taxi from Bristol to Weston Super Mare
All in all, a really good day, nice to meet clanger, but a shame about the Elite. Still, it leaves room for an S3 Esprit, doesn't it?!
