Oh my word, that’s so beautiful … same colour as the one from a couple of The Sweeney episodes … (I think)

You might be thinking of this one which appeared in an episode of The Professionals called 'The Gun'...

Don't think there were any pale blue S1s in The Sweeney, there was the white one I posted the pic of earlier, a dark blue one, a red one plus another red one in the first spin off feature film and a sable brown one in the second film. There was a lavender S2 in one episode...

We all remember Arthur Daily's yellow S3 from Minder but his first XJ was a silver S2 which appears in the opening credits...

That yellow S3 Daimler was for sale at the NEC a few years ago, the 'DYO 979V' plates it wore on screen were fake...

Some old issues of 'Classic & Sportscar' mag featuring articles on XJs have mysteriously arrived in the post today... whistle

Edited to add : my old S2 in Colet Gardens, Hammersmith, where the opening titles of The Sweeney were filmed in '74...

Thou Shalt Not Kill had one …

And I’m sure I saw a pic of John Hurt in Tomorrow Man with one but can’t find it now …

My grandfather passed away early 80's, Granny couldn't drive, she took the nearly new Triumph acclaim back to the dealer to swap it for an auto, planing to learn to drive.

She ended up marrying the car salesman, he had a Daimler S1 and took us kids to Crinkly Bottom one day, he stopped to fill the tanks and put air in the tyres, Granny complained he'd made the ride hard.

Ride hard in an S1, whatever would she think of the st cars on British roads today.

Couple more pics below. A full set of pics is still available on the website for Robert Hughes from whom I bought the car earlier in the year. He really does seem to source some nice stuff.

Just looked at his website, he's sold some cracking S1 XJ''s including yours but no proces on the sold cars. What are his S1 XJ6's typically going for? Really fancy one myself!

You got me, I’d forgotten about that one!

Robert Hughes will probably have a stand at the NEC show next week… wink

It's a while since I looked but I'm guessing he'd be nudging towards £20k for a really nice S1.

Mine was high £20ks which to me was well worth it based on condition, history etc. It has not disappointed.

Looking at the lovely coral coloured S1 Daimler Double Six VDP I posted on page one of the thread, I notice it has a Robert Hughes sticker in the rear screen which bodes well.

Also noticed some of the sellers will consider taking part-ex too which could be handy.

The opening up of a very deep rabbit hole, that’s what. Been keeping an eye on eBay, car&classic and YouTube clips constantly since you started it last week!

I’m wondering if any of the dealers fancy my Maser Biturbo as a part-ex… wink

Its because they such spectacularly good cars. By any measure. Compared to any car. An XJ6 is a brilliant machine, in my book the earlier the better.

Christ, I've been through some cars, Silver Shadow, 4 Rover P6's, Keeble, E type, Healey 100, 2 911's, Merc SL, all sorts, and the very best car was the S1 XJ6.

Starting to think the same thing myself, see if a dealer will part-ex my 1962 E-type FHC restoration project for a mint early series 1 XJ6 cool

I’ve been obsessing about XJ’s for at least a week now!!
Really miss my immaculate sage green series 3 Sovereign
A car I always promised myself I’d own ,and bought mine when I was in my early twenties.it was a fabulous car.
This is my favourite thread on pistonheads!!

Just to keep the thread rolling until one of us follows OLDBENZ's lead and actually buys one here are some XJs spotted on my travels in recent years...

Gorgeous S1 2.8 at Stoneliegh...

S1 2.8 at Coventry Transport Museum...

Daimler six and twelve cylinder Coupes at Gaydon, both owned by the same chap...

Beautiful XJ12C at the NEC, I think this was on Robert Hughes or Hurst Park's stand...

Lovely pair of S2 Daimlers at Ragley Hall...

Nice examples for sale at the NEC in recent years...

And another blatantly self indulgent shot of my S2...

Bit of a visual overload as usual but what the heck wink

Absolutely great thread and many of a certain age (50 plus) will have many happy XJ memories, whether it be owning or admiring one.

However, for me at least it’s all tinged with a degree of sadness as I’m not sure there is going to be a future Jaguar saloon with the current XF being launched 8 years ago.
