New Rule: anyone who asks to be let in twice in a row gets let in and chucked straight out again.
A revolving door membership then. Good idea. Hook it up to the B engine and it'll turn four times a day at least.

In the cocktail bar at the RAC in Pall Mall, there is a Bateman cartoon entitled "The member of the RAC who actually owned a car" that features the usual Batemanesque collection of startled Majors and outraged Aldermen, all looking askance at the cheery spiv in the middle who actually possess a motor car (this dates from the 1920s). Maybe the New Rule should be that if you have a car that actually works you are blackballed for life.

Another good Bateman cartoon there has "Every member of the RAC arriving simultaneously with a guest", which shows approx umpty bazillion bewildered and besuited types queueing back as far as the Athenaeum.

Joking apart, if ever we want a no to motoring but yes to drinking meeting up in that Lunnun, I could offer to host it at the RAC. If we want to bring the cars (or more likely have them towed to the meeting), there's the other Club House near Epsom, but frankly it's pretty stuffy and dull there (NB: golfers). The RAC no longer owns the RAC, so these days it wouldn't be infra dig to arrive on a yellow low loader instead of an orange one.

Surely a more fitting meeting place would be a Little Chef on the Great North Road; that's if anyone has a car in good enough order to reach one. As this is unlikely, perhaps the inaugural meeting should be open only to those whose car arrives on the back of a recovery vehicle - I've had lots of practice.

We could get Bernie Ecclestone to act as doorman, recall he recently lost out in a fight with a Revolving Door , ( Door 1 -Bernie Nil ) !!!
PS, put me down for 2 stickers.

If I hear any more talk of the club meeting in real life I'm leaving it for the 88kph club. At least they have imaginary crudites at the meetings that don't happen.

2 stickers please. I assume that they will unstick, self destruct and/or fly away if 55 is exceeded.

Can I join? My TVR isn't a classic, but it only ever travels on the back of a breakdown truck, most of which are limited to 55mph.

New rule - anyone suggesting TVRs (or any classic) is unreliable will be banned.

Every member must have commuted for thousands of miles through an ice age, hood down, fighting off polar bears with only a trusty toffee hammer carried just in case the crank needed regrinding. Which of course all members could achieve using only said toffee hammer, brown paper and some hairy string.

ATTN: ALL CLUB MEMBERS

Remember that the AGM takes place this weekend at the Celtic Manor. If you have not RSVPd already please do so immediately.

As per your member pack attendance is absolutely, positively prohibited. Minutes of the meeting will not be taken nor circulated.

What club?
Damn I can make that, I'll have to book something else to do instead.
