Hi jalopnic i sold the zephyr to a freind of kevin jenkins (mr six v6 escort fame). He later sold the car on.The reg number has been changed but i beleive it is still around. The car was built by the harris family from carshalton south london the rear arches were their trade mark on mk1 zephyrs. When i owned the car it ran 12.4 1/4 mile with a blown head gasket.

Front rad, other than for a heater, that must have made a big difference.
I never could understand why the Imp fan tried to blow air forward through the radiator.

Oh yes I'd forgot about the front rad. Think the radiator was ex Triumph Herald, plumbed to the back with inch copper pipe and rubber convoluted hose smile
Had no end of problems with water circutation, the hoses would run cold then mad hot. Most disconcerting for the navigator, with the hoses running between his legs laugh Cured the problem by removing the thermostat

I bought the car off a well known drag racer,he was selling the car for a customer.Unfortunatly for me he had taken a few parts off the engine and replaced them with standard parts. The car had an expensive set of GT40 heads that he swopped for a standard set so the car kept on blowing head gaskets. On collecting the car i had to supply my own battery as i was told the one on the car did not come with it!Then the car caught fire after filling up in a garage on the way home,it started out a nitemare.I soon sorted it all out and the car turned out to be a good fast reliable car.

BMW 501 or 502 = the Baroque Angel.

The angle of the picture is throwing you. You can't see the other half of the radiator "kidney" shape in either car.

Thanks for those, absolute period classics! Wonderful pictures showing how things used to be. Out of interest, where was the ferry from and to?

The picture was taken at Boulogne, on the ferry "Dinard" the journey started out in either Dover or Folkestone.

Some more.
