Was out in rural mid west France, plenty of decaying French cars, including these two more interesting ones

We went past a field full of various different states of 2CV's, vans, cars, pick ups etc near Narbonne near the south coast. Must have been 50 cars there at least

The SAAB 900,Capri and Zastava Yugo are all in the street.

Maybe not abandoned but all a mess, growing mould.

The Capri has done 50 miles in EIGHT years ...

It currently has an MOT! Has done TWO miles in between the last two MOTs. (To the MOT station and back) ...

MOT SAID:

Advisory notice item(s)
vehicle overheated during emission test Gawd.

The Saab 96 was last MOT'd in 2007.

Sceptre isn't even on the records ...

I'm mystified by what motivates an owner to keep a car and MoT it, but otherwise neglect it completely, particularly one that now has considerable value like the Capri. But then the motivations of the owners of the vehicles in every other pic on this thread are similarly mystifying. If being kept for restoration/undergoing restoration without a garage or workshop then durable covers or tarpaulins are not expensive relative to the damage they can prevent. Humans are weird.

One thought would be that they would not want to go through the hassle of dealing with the general public if they had to flog it.

How would you shift cars like these?

Advertise the low value ones on one make forums/RetroRides/Autoste; if no takers and they're rotten wait for scrap to go up a bit and call the scrapman.

For rarer/high value ones, the same forum ads but if that fails ebay with lots of photos and no reserve; even things rotten as peaches seem to attract vigorous bidding, although you will probably have to tolerate several time wasters before actually shifting it.

In reality a lot of the owners of the cars featured here probably have unrealistic expectations of value and/or irrational emotional attachment to what is rapidly returning to iron oxide in their garden. I have been that man but I saw the light.

I had an odometer like that once.

Of course.

Auctioneer trying to talk up the value already ... rolleyes

What is the front bar by the nose, looks like the ones the US cars had ... And the single fog light! Period accessories ...

No idea what it'll make ... Rotten as a peach though for sure ...

I might have taken a pic of this before for classics spotted but now it's dumped in the corner of the yard and growing mould it's coming in here.

Those little pugs are very pretty with the roof down, not so much with it up though.

Went past it myself last Friday (not sure if there were 50), as well as a yard full of them just outside Sete.

I didn't spot a single GS or CX though - they've just gone :-(

Yes there are lots of them still dotted around in French fields. I will be near Sete soon as I am off to Meze / Loupian soon

There's a superb old Jamaican cargo ship moored up there, apparently ready for the scrapyard. I read somewhere that 95 grand would buy it!

Stumbled across this Supra park on the road recently, obviously hadn't moved in a long while judging by tyres. Am not a Supra expert but I guess it is a jap import by the wheels and plate shape, possibly then a turbo (twin?). Advan wheels were in pretty good shape and must have a value. Interior was ok and it was a manual.

Advan SR3's I think. I sold a set two years ago for about £350. Then again mine were probably reps hehe
