Owner crashes E-type just after restoring it

No not at all, turns out I was doing 52mph when I hit it. Its a v odd thing to aim at a 12m lamp post and not back off at the last minute.
I bought the rover from a local garage, about a week after the programme went out I was buying fuel and the salesman came out and had a go at me. "that was my dads car I sold you, it was the only new car he ever had in his life, he made me promise him it would go to a good home etc etc"
I got a dvdof the programme and the press coverage copied for his dad, I gather now that every visitor is subjected to a full length viewing

with a convertable the pole maintains a straight line from the windscreen rail to either the roll hoop or whatever the next impact point is so driver and front passenger ok, not sure about rear seat passengers.
Councils don't like them as they prefer to find a dead car at the bottom of a light column so they know who to bill, if the car drives off it makes it harder for them

Thats a much safer design, although as the V12 XKE was a OTS roadster it would no doubt have taken his head off!
Guess theres no safe way to hit a lamppost, least of all in an old 1970's car!

I would not like to be anywhere near that if someone hit it. The top whacks the ground with quite some force then goes over the car to hit it again at the front.The way it comes down on the roof looks a little scary to me.
My granddad hit a signpost outside his house with a Rover 600 several years ago. The car and the post survived with considerable damage to both, so we can consider it a draw .

This is written above this photo that clearly show near perfect conditions.Why is nobody there? It's a bit strange for a crash scene to be totally deserted, don't the Police insist they are moved quite quickly?
Could have been mechanical failure brought on by the DIY restorer himself, who knows...

They are surprisingly not that difficult to drive or handle, and in relative terms not that fast compared to many modern car..
Its more than likely hes swerved to avoid another car, and the brakes are for me the biggest weak point (on all e-types) including the S3 (especially when compared to modern machines)
One thing i notice more than anything when driving mine, is how late other more modern cars brake, when i'm thinking much further ahead when it comes to stopping the thing!

People crash cars for a whole host of reasons and its not always down to lack of ability...

The driver could have lost control due to a mechanical failure!
(Just because the car had recently been restored doesn't mean that something mechanical couldn't have failed).
