Just being picky, the front wheel arch is square'ish and the rear arch is the same height as the front, the mystery car's rear arch is lower than the front which is a smooth curve. Distance betweeb rear of front wheel arch and door line is longer on this that the mystery car as well.

I vote that we stop being picky and just assume its a trick of the light. I'm not sure I can stand it anymore!

Might it be a Salmson 2300??
That looks really really close. The grill looks different but that could be due to damage on the mystery car.
It is v v close but the one in the mystery picture has a round front wheel arch and thicker C pillar.

Long(ish) front overhang, coupe shape, flat radius rear fender.

Old skoda 110 Coupe?

Or slighty older still?

This photo was taken way before the Skoda, and probably before the Gilbern.

It's significantly different if you look at it from a different angle. Look at the distance between the A pillar and front wheelarch, and the rear window and boot form a distinct angle compared to the fastback look of the unknown car.

The Skoda isn't a million miles away, but the overall styling is more modern than the unknown car, especially the thin pillars.

There is a DS in the picture from late 50's (56 on), Gilbern was built from 59. Right time, wrong rear arch!

Thread resurrection.

I had a dream last night that I was there, in that scene in the late 50's, and that little car was mine.

Still can't tell you what it bloody was though.

There's been no answer from the nutters (laugh)on Autopuzzles, and if they don't know, nobody does.

I had a dream like that too, except in my dream I find a lump hammer and reshape that mystery car into something more recognizable, I made a Jensen Interceptor convertible, and this thread was then closed......then I woke to find the thread resurrected.

Has anyone sent it into the boffins at Classic and Sportscar - they a have a mystery car competition and its usually something one-off by some random coachbuilder from way back when?

They know the answer to their puzzles, though.

Having said that, one esteemed member of the editorial team is a member of PH. Maybe he'd like to help us?

There's nowhere near enough metal there to make an Interceptor Convertible...

...and the A-Pillar is all wrong whistle

The more I look at it, the more I'm convinced that it's a Deutsch-Bonnet that's been in a front-end shunt.

From the windscreen back, I think it's an exact match for a DB HBR5, but the bonnet, front wings and nose are wrong - and those are the bits that look least well resolved, to me, as if they've been bodged onto it to get it usable again.

I'm sure I've posted this before, but...

Ignore the 'front' of the car. It's not. It's the rear picnic table thingymabob from the other car, not a weird grill/light setup on the mystery car...

The overall silhouette is very close, but there's no quarterlights on the Deutsch-Bonnet, and the front edge of the door extends past the A pillar which isn't something that could be changed easily.

I got my hopes up when I saw a new post in here, thought someone must have nailed it by now biggrin
