I love threads like this
(colours all faded)
Here's my Vaden Plas 1100 in 1978(?) with Mrs Beer (then mearly miss slimline tonic water) told to stand in front of the aftermarket fog light to hide it as it was broken - note sheepskin covers over the Vanden's leather seats to stop the transfer of heat in the summer and cold in winter
Here is miss slimline tonic water's first car from 1979(?) a Fiat 850 which when bought had a large tin of Dulux in the (front) boot the same colour as the car! We had driven a friend's dog out to go for a country walk
Bloody hell - someone else with an 850 as their first car. Didn't last long, due to far too much clutch slip and a collapsing drivers seatback which made for exciting times!(colours all faded)

I also found this one and included it purely for the lack of cars.
It must have been taken in 1970 from the 6th floor of the tower block we lived in for all of the 1970s in Leytonstone, East London. Thankfully the horrible place has been pulled down now.
If it hadn't been pulled down, I wonder what the same view would be like today.

To be honest the view would have been the same, apart from a road running where the black car is, running up to the Birbeck Arms pub. All the houses are still there except the ones behind the white gate, there's a school there now.
My old infants' school is the big building on the left, that's still there, and you can see the floodlights in the distance of Leyton Orient's ground.
A lot of the ghastly tower-blocks are still there, but the one I lived in was pulled down. If anybody knows the area, Crownfield Road runs parallel to the left of the picture, up towards the Thatched House pub.
Being on meager earnings as an apprentice joiner back in the late 70's i could just about afford my first car which was a 1600e cortina and i loved that car, unfortunatly it nearly came to a sticky end when it had a altercation with a wagon, which pulled out on me from a stop junction when i had right of way, the ironry of the story is sign writen on the wagon was reddish demolition which i find funny now but didn't then. The car was an insurance write off and i was able to buy it back off the insurance company for a nominal fee and with the rest of the money i restored the car and sold it on, it didn't feel the same after the bump, I sold it for £900, back then it was a lot of dosh and with cash in hand bought a lotus cortina mk2 for £875.00, dont you wish you could do a deal like that nower days, once again i was unlucky with the car, after eight months of driving around with the biggist smile on my face, the car was stolen and never recovered " lesson learned never park your car outside a cinema as they have plenty of time to nick it while you are watching the film" Once again with cash in hand after i had been payed out i bought a RS2000 escort mk2, great sporting ford and had a good few years driving it untill the inevertable happened i got engaged and started to save for a house so the car had to be sold.
my 1600e cortina
my lotus cortina
rs20000 escort
To present day and i own a couple of sporting fords, it's in your blood dont you know.

1966. My E93a based special that I built in my parents' front garden and when completed I had to take down their fence to get it out; I sourced the parts from scrapyards,
including Jaguar instruments of which the speedo read 90 if I could get it up to 60.
I wish I still had the number plate.
It's along side my friend's father's Imp.

My first Car/Hotrod making its debut after I had spent 4 years building it at the Knebworth Nationals circa 1982 -83. I worked on it solidly for four months before the show not normally going to bed before 2 or 3 in the morning. It was only MOT'ed the morning this pic was taken. I still own it too this day....
I learnt to weld, spray, fabricate and do mechanical work on that car, I owe it a lot
