Good find, would think past T cut stage!

Late '30s V8 ford would be about right, question is how did it get there!
Let's narrow this down: two possible numbers for head studs are possible:
17 studs: 137in²
21 studs: 221...255in² 1932-1938
24 studs: 221...255in² 1938-1953
27 studs: 337in²

The one in the pictures is a 24 stud. Seeing that the openings between the centre cylinder bores are trapezoidal-shaped, this has to be a 1939-42 block.

There's loads of cars from Ford and Mercury that used the engine between 39 and 42; from coupés to school buses; and: the engine was licenced to other manufacturers too. Production for passenger cars stopped 1961 at Simca, and for trucks stopped 1973 in Germany.

How could someone leave a 993 Turbo like that. Was the house occupied at all ?

That's interesting about the dates on the engine. I found this in a wood next door to an old WW2 airfield. The wood was the old ammo dump used by the British but then the US took over the airfield. Could well be left by them when they left.

You are very lucky SP - those Metro/100s can rust to an absolutely epic degree, and usually do. Especially around sills, floorpans and arches.

It looks like a chassis outrigger. As well as cars the flathead also ended up in loads of things painted green; Bren Carriers, generator sets and about 100k Ford CMP medium lorries.

So it's currently taxed and it appears to be insured, so how does it qualify as left to die/rotting?

It's obviously someone's toy that has simply been used during the recent wet weather rather than being sat in a garage.

That was my thought too, the green stuff could easily be pollen off a nearby tree, my outside cars were covered in pollen from a nearby larch tree a few months ago.

I doubt it, look at the moss that is sitting in the gap between the bonnet and bumper, that does not develop over night. That car has not been used for a while.

This has been a compelling read from start to finish and has kept me busy for most of the Christmas and New Year break! smile
Pat's TVR story and the de-chromed and body kitted SEC from the Daily Mail photo were my highlights. I will keep my eyes peeled and try to contribute over the coming weeks. Well done and thanks to all of those who have done so already. thumbup

I agree....This car looks well and truly left to die

Should be a law against it
