If you call Mercedes Benz Classic in Germany, they will restore your car using original parts and return it back to it's former glory. They also have a sales channel and the preparation of the cars are amazing. The E500 they have for sale is up for €50,000 and looks like new:

the prices sound wild at first, but thinking about it, they actually make the new standard cars sound expensiveCar for sale http://newsroom.mercedes-benz-classic.com/en/vehic...

what price a 5 litre mass-produced E-class now?
and the 500E they're selling was hand built by Porsche, cost 150,000DM new (€75,000), and is hand rebuilt, they can completely rebuild a car and sell it for less than its original price?

Fiat 130 coupe very cool for cats. A workmate had a silver P-reg 1976 coupe many years ago with blue suede seats. I think they were nearly all 3.2 V6 3-speed autos. Lots and lots of bodyfiller on that car. And then some more. Then just a light skim of filler on top. Paintjob lasted 6 weeks before it all bubbled up again.
Did they really have a hand-operated cruise-control throttle between the front-seats or has my memory finally broken?
Yep other side of the gear selector to the choke.Did they really have a hand-operated cruise-control throttle between the front-seats or has my memory finally broken?

OT but linked to the above, in the early eighties my Dad drove a Fiat truck with a cruise control pull out handle. IIRC unlike most cruise controls, touching the brakes didn't cancel it which kept you on your toes!
Back in the mid-1960s, my younger brother had a Fiat 1500. That had a plethora of spoon shaped levers on the steering column. One was a form of "Cruise control" .... it held the throttle at a chosen speed setting to suit the driver's needs. Had to be cancelled manually. He needed to replace the front discs on it. By coincidence, I needed to do that on my MGB at that time. One front disc for the MGB was a massive 28/- ( twenty eight shillings = £1.40p today .... )
One disc for the Fiat was 112/- ( One hundred and twelve shillings = £5.60p ). Quite tidy sum in those days when few folks took home more that twenty quid a week.

maybe not a true classic, but when was the last time your saw one of these, a great cool coupe from Fiat

The beauty of the FIAT 130 Coupe lies in the simplicity of it's shape.FIAT 130 COUPE by shagracer, on Flickr
It's a simple, elementary three box shape that's not been over-complicated with loads of different contours.
Aesthetically, it should really be a boring looking shape but somehow, in true Italian style, it manages to pull it off and look incredibly elegant.
Not left or rotting but compares well to the version on page 51 on this thread.

I think there are some magazine road-tests on the 130 coupe available on the interweb, will have a look later. My workmate always boasted that it had a Ferrari Dino engine, which wasn't quite true, although I think there were some similarities. His car was certainly quick back in the late 80s and would see off a Rover SD1 V8, (I know this, as I had the Rover!), and the XR3-boys got a surprise too.
The 130 coupe was a very well styled car IMO - but others used to say it looked like a big Lada 2-door.
Edit - I just scrolled down and found other relevant posts re 130 and hand-throttle - thanks for them too - I will check out links later
