Help identifying a strange little car

Probably a 1963 Simca 1000 Bertone Coupe, with a rear engine, easily identified by the squared off rear wheel arch.
The 1968 model had bonnet cutouts and a proper grill.

Definitely the car but in the 60's there was a propensity to attach extra lights to the bumpers. Definitely that car.
'The car' doesnt have the fuel fillerThe wrap around rear bumpers are shorter but could be from a boxy Simca
The C pillars are thicker and smaller rear screen
Is there a stable mate from say Matra? or a Fiat/Seat equivalent
or a pre 60s version

I'm still convinced its either some sort of pre-production test car or a home brew fibreglass effort and so I don't think we'll ever have an answer...

ZETA ZS - posts up to January 2016 - came across these posts this weekend.
Can any one help?? We have been trying to locate this car for years. It was built in Langley 1971 by my father, based on a 1200 beetle chassis donated from nearly new beetle which had been rolled. Any info on where it is now would be really appreciated.
My initial thought was it might be a Rawlson LM, but Googling shows it to be quite different, though it has a hint of the distinctive Ferrari LM tail spoiler. You might get a steer if you post in the ‘kit car’ section. Nice car BTW.Can any one help?? We have been trying to locate this car for years. Looks like an Oldsmobile Calias, circa 1986Same family as the Cutlass Calais, but the tail lamps are the giveaway.

Have you messaged the person who posted the "as found" pics back in Dec 15; "M11 MFP"? I messaged him too regarding the location back then but got no response. He seems to live mostly in the Holden forums. Can any one help?? We have been trying to locate this car for years. Saw this today and made me think of this thread.
Sadly doesn't solve the mystery though.

I can see a line (assuming it's not a photo blur mark) but it's not inline with the bottom of the window corner, imagine how it would look if the supposed rear door was open. I think it's a two door.Could be a Vauxhall Nova SR, or an S1 Etype or a Ford Escort Mexico

A Simca Convertable with custom hard top for goodness sake. They were famous for their rear squared off wheel arches.
Except the model you said this "definitely" was quite clearly isnt the same car.I really struggle to understand how people can be so unobservant when comparing two static images; so many of the cars being suggested have glaring and fundamental differences in the design and that includes the convertible Simca above.

I've been thinking along similar lines for some time but not necessarily with four doors. The rear side window and rear wing have something of the Bentley R-type Continental about them but not the rest of the car, however. The roofline doesn't fit unless it looks as it does due to the camera angle and neither do the front wings. A real puzzler.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
