Knurling seen more often on motorcycle pistons as a fix, those are old British bike pistons by the looks too ,bit like portable call out boring whilst engine in situ piston services, all way back when

I would agree, going by the drillings, especially the hole for a dowel to prevent the ring rotating and catching in the transfer port in a two-stroke engine.

I would agree, going by the drillings, especially the hole for a dowel to prevent the ring rotating and catching in the transfer port in a two-stroke engine.
Two-strokes don't have oil control rings and that's not a dowel hole.
