Note the different Rostyle wheel design in the brochure shot, I don't think the 3 Litre had your style of wheel as std and that your wheels were from a 1600 or 2 litre Capri ?

Note also the new " steel Sports " wheels on the September 71 on, revised / uprated Tawny 3000E.

I'm still not convinced re those wheels being a factory fit for the 3 Litre cars, my Mums first one bought at under a year old ( VEG 97H in Auberghine ) had the brochure Rostyles and the timewarp original H reg Silver one I owned had them too and many other H and J registered 3 Litre cars I saw had the brochure Rostyles as well.

All the K registered ( August 71 - August 72 ) cars I ever saw had the new " sports " type of wheel as per the InterEurope booklet

I had a pal who had a J reg 2 Litre with the other type of wheel.

The Silver one that I had was fitted with that power bulge bonnet end section. The Silver 3 Litre that Giles Crush restored has it I believe, he told me his one is the earliest known 3 Litre survivor.

Circa 1980 a late pal turned up in an early 3 Litre he had ideas on flogging me. I took it for a blast, but compared to EVC 289L, the gear ratios were awful and it just didn't rev like my mid 72 build car.

Re wheels, no wonder Cosmic alloys sold so well.....Their Adverts stated something like " Fit Cosmic and you can arrive dramatically " seen here fitted to YCF 346K my much missed 3000E, which started life in Norfolk as an auto, but thankfully converted to a manual sometime before I bought it 😃

£30 grand for an early 128bhp with an Auto box and not the ideal colour either is crazy / daft money, but they are well known for " hyping the market ".

Brian Muir was a top driver. He drove that 3000E at FordSports Day with Malcolm Gartlan being his " Entrant".

The following year, Muir drove for Malcolm Gartlan in the BMW Concessionaires owned / Alpina prepared 3.0 CSL ( with James Hunt at the Zandvoort 4 hours race )

A GXL that hasn’t survived. It was owned by a good pal in who lived in Harlow, in circa 1979 / 80. Vague memories of a ride in it once. It’s not showing on DVLA, so not sure if it was a 72 or 73.
It met its end, on a notoriously dangerous stretch of road, in Hertfordshire, in a head on, with a lorry. Fortunately without serious injury.

There is a Capri specialist/restorer in Orkney, one of ours ended up there and he got in touch asking for any details we had about it. Only a 1.6 Laser.
That’s Trevor.

Hi

Does anybody know if this one is still around ?, i owned it in the late eighties
She was originally registered in Nth London, in October 74 ( took a long time to sell ( or she was a Dealer Demo car )
Tax was due in Feb 88 ( but loads of us drove with no rent in the screen back then ) and a V-5 was last issued on November 5th 1990.
An HPi will show if it’s on another plate.

Literally just discovered this image !! It shows the May 1970 FordSports Day Capri race @ Brands Hatch. 20 x 3 Litre Cars, were driven by 20 top drivers of the day, including Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill and the race winner Piers Courage ( who tragically lost his life some 6 weeks later in Holland @ the wheel of a De Tomaso from memory.
At least one of these Capris has amazingly survived. Film of the race is on You Tube.

But sadly, no film is thought to have survived of the 1972 Capri race.

Interesting early test by the sadly long gone Motor magazine, of a silver fox 3000GT which first became available in October 1969.
What a £ bargain it was @ £1,400 quid.

Was that NHK 281M in that road test?
From memory it was a Sebring red car, but 281 was the Daytona yellow press demo / first car built I think ?
