Smart Capri.

I sold mine a couple of years ago and wish that I had kept it. It had never been painted, never welded and had done 40,000 miles from new.

Lack of garage space and an irrational desire to buy back my old Esprit forced me to sell it.

Seven. As discovered after a 25 year sleep.

Now about half way fettled...

Love the Seven, what's the sorry behind it?

I fancied building another Seven, but couldn't be arsed with SVA, fuel injection, catalysts, emissions, noise limits and all of that cock.

So I kept my eyes open for an old one and eventually found this one.

It was a one owner car with 9500 miles on the clock. It is an early Caterham Seven, but is registered as a Lotus, as many were back then.

It came from a terribly nice chap who had bought it as a kit (less engine and box) from Caterham Cars in 1977.

The engine came from Vegantune. The receipt says it was their 150bhp Rally Tune spec.

He used it for a few years and then just pushed it into a corner of his shed and put a sheet over it.

It was pretty much forgotten about for the better part of 25 years. Then I bought it.

The frame has been fettled by Arch Motors to include a long cockpit conversion and lowered floors, so that I can actually fit in it. It also has mountings for a FIA roll bar and harnesses and a few other little tweeks, as well as the new skin.

It should make a fast, snorty Seven that is just a bit more interesting than a new one.

I really must find time to finish it off.

I have driven just one Seven, a fairly standard one in Lotus colours with a revvy Ford 1600, and found it to be a blast. The good thing about such low cars is that you can have a hoot without risking your licence or a big prang, as they feel fast even at modest speeds.

[quote=Lax Power]Apologies if this has been done somewhere before but I thought it would be good to see what is out there and hopefully get the motivation going to get your classic out in the coming sunny months.

This is my lot (a bit of a mixed bag)

LSU 534 now lives in Paris

But LSU mark II is on the way.

Love the Alfa. Must meet up in Bristol, when the weather improves.

Here's another one that was sold a couple of years ago to make garage space.

It was only a 998 Automatic, but it was a lovely thing.

One owner, 12,000 miles from new. Completely original, even down to the tyres and exhaust.

It had been owned by a little old lady who bought it in 1972 and gave up driving in 1985. The car had been standing for over 20 years when I bought it.

It needed a radiator, water pump, thermostat, petrol tank, master cylinder, wheel cylinders and a new carpet.

I paid £1500 for it and had to travel to Southend and trailer it home. I desperately regret selling it.

Thanks for the fill in, totally agree with it being much more interesting than just buying new one.

Thanks! Yep, once the newness has run out on the current rubber I'm going to hunt down some proper 80 profile tyres (I think the current ones are 70's). Problem is they are pretty hard to come by and pretty expensive for what they are... C

I thought that I knew my 1960s Brit GTs, but I had never before heard of or seen a Tornado Talisman. It is a good looking car.

I like the shots of the green and orange early Escorts seen above also, noting the period details such as spot lamps, and am glad that you have resisted the temptation to add silly big wheels or anything of that kind. I fondly remember my dad's ex police pale blue Mark One Escort (he had three ex plodmobiles, as they were cheap and well maintained - an Anglia, a Mark One and then a Mark Two Escort).
